    Default Playing Megadrive games on the Genesis ?

    I've been on a bit of a Fantasy Zone freak-out lately, and I want to get Super Fantasy Zone. Does any one know weither or not I can play this on my Genesis using a Game Genie, or do I have to get a converter? And is there any difference in compatibility between the JAP and PAL versions running on a Genesis?
    -thanks

    You may be able to get it playing without an adaptor. Some of the earlier Megadrive games work without a hitch. I think they got around to putting a lockout in games after '92. If it was made before then, you may be set already.

    Default er, ummmm...

    actually, some early japanese md games made/publised by sega around 1988 won't work with any adaptor! after burner II and outrun made me go buy a japanese console cheap after trying them on 3 different genesis systems with 4 different converters, and i haven't had a problem since. a pal fantasy zone needs a mega key with region switches (a bit tricky to find, but not impossible), or certain model 1 genesis systems (i don't know how many variations were made before the genesis 2 popped up)...=^P

    Default lessee now...

    here's what i've seen or have currently:

    there are straight md/genesis adaptors (no switches), useful for most later japanese games (or as doorstops if you find a md or region switch cart);

    there are cart adaptors with region switches: i've seen a multi-region (u.s./japan ntsc, uk pal/brazil or u.s./japan/pal)

    action replay cart/game genie- these seem to work as well, with the action replay being more reliable.

    i HAD an extra mega drive system, but i sold it off a few months ago... :wink:

    Ok, i have a Genesis 2, and all that happened to mine was someone chissled out the edges of the cart slot, so that megadrive games would fit...ive only tested it with one game, but it worked...and it still functions normally with Genny games....so you might wanna try it if you dont mind doing that to your system...but if its like it is up here where you are...you can build a house out of the gennys found at value village and goodwill and stuff
