Time for something really special, a classic gaming ARTIFACT. An open (but anonymous) auction for the one-of-a-kind find, Power Grabber for the ColecoVision.
This is from the collection of Mr. William Sommerwerck. You will be seeing much more of his stuff here in the coming weeks, gigantic collections of NES, ColecoVision, Sega Master System... well, you'll just have to stick around to see it all. This is probably the only AUCTION we'll run against his collection despite the fact that he's got loads of incredible pieces he'd like to make available to the collectors here at Digital Press.
Now, onto Power Grabber.
This is a bare-board prototype of a game that was never commerically released. In the words of Mr. Sommerwerck:
"Here's the story, as it was told to me by one of the honchos at Sydney Development. It seems the Canadian Atomic Energy Commission was giving tours of their nuke-u-lar facilities, but didn't want the rugrats (children under eight or so) tagging along with their parents. So Sydney was commissioned to develop a video game to keep the kiddies occupied. Power Grabber was the result.
I was under the impression the game had been distributed to various nuke-u-lar power plants. But no other copies -- other than this one, which I got directly from Sydney -- has ever shown up. So it appears to be unique."
Naturally the game works perfectly and appears as pictured here. As a one-of-a-kind item, the opening bid will start high.
Minimum bid: $940.
RULES OF THIS AUCTION:if you are interested, please PM or email me with your bid. It does not have to be your final offer. I will give you, in return, a "handle". This "handle" is the name you will go by in this thread. If you are assigned the name "Mr. White", then I will post here that the high bid is for "Mr. White", for x dollars.
The auction will run for ten days, closing on November 24th at noon. If there are no bids then the item will most likely be sold on eBay. You had your chance!
If the total bid reaches $1880, the winner can choose any 5 of the remaining ColecoVision games in Mr. Sommerwerck's collection. As I said, there is GREAT stuff in there, everything is complete and boxed and purchased "back in the day". Everyone will be privvy to these goodies after this auction ends. Further, if this number is reached, he will ship Power Grabber and the
five carts by overnight mail, and pick up all of the charges (including insurance).
