    5/10 (Miiddle of the Pack)

This review almost won me over, as it's very clear the reviewer knows this game very (for example, the tidbit on what Game Boy version display particular graphics the best is great.)

It's too bad that the writing is drab enough that I had to read between the lines to figure out that the reviewer is excited by anthing about the game.

5/10. A typo or two, decent writing, all in all, not bad, but doesn't grab me!

5.5 (if points are allowed, if not then a 5)

I'm going to agree with Trellisaze in the fact that this was a good review but the writer's excitement doesn't shine. The reader needs to feel your emotions and honestly it seems like you just feel so-so about the game. Other than that, good review, but that is a big part of the review.

Minor typo issues make the review worth only a 5?

Not only that, I don't even see any typos....

Anyway. I agree that the reviewer lacks excitement about the game and that can reduce the impact that it has.

But most of it seems rather impartial. Instead of flat out saying if the game was good or bad, they mention both good things and bad things about it (very well supported with facts) and this lets the reader decide if they will like the game or not.

I dislike the intro to this article. It's kind of choppy until the writer finally found the flow of things a few paragraphs later.

Its good, but definitely not as good as some of the others I've read so far.

    I give it a 7/10

I didn't see any major grammatical errors -- not enough to cite it as a problem, like many (many!) of the other reviews. Unfortunately, what I also didn't see is a hook.

Here is the opening sentence of the review again:

"The game launched in August 1993 and then became available as a pack-in game with the original Game Boy system."

I'm not picking on this particular review, as many of them have had the same problem, but that is a crap introduction. Actually, that's NO introduction. Again in this review, the name of the game is never even mentioned. What this review badly needs is bookends -- a beginning and an end, to surround the (otherwise decent) summary of the game. For example:

"Ever since the original Legend of Zelda was released for the NES in 1987, gamers have been taking the impish Link on adventures. In 1993, gamers were finally able to LITERALLY take Link with them on adventures, thanks to Nintendo's portable Gameboy and the fourth game in the Zelda series, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening."

That's not the greatest intro, but it sets the scene. It tells readers that there were three other Zelda games, that it was made by Nintendo, that it's for the Gameboy, and it's interesting.

Pardon the reference, but you need a little foreplay before you jump into the deed, ya know?

This review leaves me empty. If you're not all that familiar with Zelda, it is almost meaningless. What is there is still coherent, though.

Tonight will be the last batch of "cuts".

If your review isn't locked at midnight tonight, you're entitled to the Digital Press subscription, and your review will be moved onto the main contest site.

Unfortunately, not every review will make it.

This one is getting cut. Low review scores from our judges and forum. Sorry! Thanks for playing though... there are lots more contests coming up
