Default Random Game O' the Day: Cybermorph

The DP Random Game Generator of Xtreme Polygons (tm) loves you. As a gesture of its affection, it has generously chosen Cybermorph for the Atari Jaguar as today's topic.

So you've got this ship, and these missions, and this huge environment, and a tiny female head that barks orders, and lots of polygons. Game Fan rated it "game of the month" when it was released (packed in with the Jaguar console) and gave it a TEN out of TEN.

So what's YOUR opinion? Write your own mini-review here.

    U.S. Game Releases
Cybermorph (1 Meg) (Jaguar, by Atari) $3/R1
Developed by Attention to Detail (ATD). In an effort to reduce costs of their base console, Atari started to offer a stripped down version of Cybermorph as a pack-in game. The only things removed were the opening animation and some of the phrases spoken by Skylar. Released 1994.

Cybermorph (2 Meg) (Jaguar, by Atari) $25/R4
Developed by Attention to Detail (ATD). This game was a pack-in with the Jaguar console. Released 1993. #J9000.

I really do hate this game. "Avoid the walls." Really? No sh*t? Seriously, I haven't played it very much, but in my limited playtime, I couldn't take it. By the time I played it, I was already spoiled by some PS One games that blew it away and that's probably why.

As big a fan of the Jag that I am, I never really got into Cybermorph. Definitely not a 10 out of 10, even at the time of its release.

Now it's sequel, BattleMorph on the JagCD, is a great game. It takes the foundation of Cybermorph and expands on it tenfold. I'd recommend BM highly and would consider it a showcase game for the Jag, but CM I find mediocre at best.

And yes, Skylar is hella annoying.

I love Cybermorph because it was reviewed by Dave Halverson of GameFan/Gamers' Republic/Play infamy while tripping on acid slipped into his beverage by mischievous employees. If you have a copy of the issue, re-read the review and note how fixated Halverson is with the game's use of color.

I liked this game myself at least back then. It was of course the first Jag game I played since it was a pack-in with my spiffy new Jaguar. Hey who dosen't like a bald green woman who speaks to you during the game! The graphics today may be a joke but way back then they seemed cool and unique to me. The gameplay was smooth and different so it kept me playing. I stopped playing it after I got AVP for the Jag and haven't played it much since then but don't judge it til you tried it with an open mind.
