I have been looking on ebay for sixth months looking for an affortable Jap Sega Saturn and I have seen some of the most outrageous prices for them, true their a cool item to have but I mean I dont wanna pay 350 dollars for one,50-75 seems reasonable for a console and a controller,am I off base or are they really worth in the 100 ranges?

There's a good number of varieties of Japanese Saturn...if you're seeing them in the $350 range they must be one of the more rare kinds. I don't think a regular gray Saturn should cost too much at all, especially if it's used (really only $50 or so)

The cheapest would be buying from a gamer that no longer wants one. If you buy from a Japanese seller, the shipping alone will cost $50. After that, $20-$25 is a fair price.

Most Japanese sellers buy old collections mainly anyway, so should have no qualms at selling them for $75 shipped.

That reminds me. Not to hijack the thread, but I hear that Surface Mail is a good way to get stuff busted up. Anybody had bad experiences with shipping stuff that way, and if you have shipped things what were they?

I've probably mailed 1000 or so packages give or take a few hundred. I've sent Airmail, registered airmail, and EMS. I've sent my first SAL package a few weeks ago (a book) and it arrived okay.

I don't think it'll necessarily get broken, but it's sitting around in uncaring hands a lot more, so the chances of it getting crushed by another box of mail is quite likely. For the record, I've only had one package turn up with the item gone.

    Default Japan Saturns

If you keep your eyes open on auctions from Japan you should find a cheap one sooner or later. I, and a freind, have bought several Japanese Saturns for about $10 - $15 on average from Japanese sellers. Unboxed, but they have always worked fine. And when you are getting it for that little, shipping isn't really an issue. Keep your eyes open on the big sellers - they are the ones that will just want to get an unboxed Saturn off their hands as quick as possible, because they know they won't make much on it anyway, and it takes up too much space - which could be used for more games, which is where they make their real money mostly!

saw sonic saturn went for over $400 but then it's supposedly very rare - haven't heard of it myself before the auction.

I got my smoke skeleton for ted under $100 not so long ago so don't know what the original poster was on about unless he/she wanted Derby skeleton saturn which is another very rare saturn.

    cheers

p.s. suppose development saturns won't count although they are quite handy as already having region mod and etc? :)
