Default An epiphany courtesy of GTA VC

My name is Dave, and I’m a Vice City addict. I can’t seem to stop playing it. However, this post is more than just a fan boy rant.

I’m a person who used to rule the arcade. I played Asteroids in an arcade for over 48 hours on one quarter. As kids we used to have our pecking order based on how good of a gamer you were.

I came to realize that I lost my gaming addiction around the time I got rid of my Genesis. I got older, got married and divorced, got a real job, and lost the drive and time necessary to seriously play games. I joined this board to rekindle that addiction and that didn’t work. Don’t get me wrong, I love this board, but many people notice that my off topic posts far outweigh my VG posts.

Well, this past holiday weekend I must’ve spent approximately 30-35 hours playing Vice City. I got all the hidden packages, finished most of the missions, used the tank and Hunter without cheats, and done almost everything there is to do on that game. The amazing thing is that I’m sitting at work thinking about the VC time I’m going to put in later tonight.

Do any of you know the maximum amount of money you can earn in VC? $999,999,999.

I know because I did it at 2am Saturday night. I got the Vigilante mode up to the 400th level before finally giving up and going to bed. I did it because I wanted to see if I could do it, and for no other reason.

In short, I am now an addict again. I lost a very important part of my life, and Rockstar helped me find it again. Can I have a hallelujah?

You're preaching to the choir, my friend. I recently rediscovered Vice City via the Xbox Double Pack, and while it's even buggier than the PS2 version, the gameplay is just as consuming (and the satire just as hilarious). I feel genuine sorrow for any gamer who refuses to play VC for "moral" reasons, because he or she is willfully forsaking a member of the videogame pantheon.

Cue- Just for kicks start cheating once you "finish" the game.

Try Sunshine Auto mission's with the tank.

Jump the fence at the golf course and shoot the gangster instead of clubbing him, crap like that.

The possiblities on that game are retarted.

BTW did you do the G-spotligt mission with a Bike or a Chopper?

I'll do that. Altho I haven't cheated at all except if you consider using the hunter for vigilante mode cheating.

BTW man, it's retarded (not retarted).

Help me out, which mission is the G-spotlight again?

HaHa I get somebody irked every time I spell that word that way.

Anyway- The g-spotlight is one of the Adult Film missions you gotta do.
The objective is too jump from rooftop to roof top with the motorcycle and then stick a the Canndy Suxxxxxxxx picture in the Spotlight .

I used the helicopter and just landed in each Pink spot untill i was done.

If you did it with a bike you are my hero.

the one where you use the motorcycle to jump between the rooftops downtown. it's a film studio mission. i tried to use the motorcycle for like 2 tries, and then i just used the police helicoptor instead. i knew it would take me 20 tries otherwise.

i also just finished all the missions last night. i doubt i'll ever find all the secret packages though...i don't really care about that...finish the missions to me means finishing the game...not 100%.

if I remember correctly, G-spotlight is the mission where you jump from roof top to roof top in order to display the big boobies on the side of the building using the spotlight. Once that mission is complete your movie studio should generate $7000(?) per day

I used the crotch rocket for that mission and it took me 3 trys to accomplish it.

When I played that game I just went nutz with the cheats.

I got to the point where I cheated on every mission just for on general principle. Being a criminal shouldn't be so hard.

My favorite was using the rocket launcher in the Golf Course.

Doing the Gaurdian Angel with the Python (Dirty Harry Gun)

And Doing missions in slow mo.

Now that I got that out of my system, I can play it with out cheats and it will be like a new game.

I still only found like 50 packages

That's the mission I need to do tonight actually. I still need to finish the mission where you drop the fliers from the sea plane. I always hit a building and then cannot take off again.

So far the worst mission for me was the one where you have to race Hillary. God I hated that.

yes! racing hilary took me like 15 tries. i would be swearing at my computer. the last try i finally managed to catch up to him and run him off the road long enough to finish in first. for me, that was probably the hardest mission.

the seaplane wasn't bad for me. 2 or 3 tries at the most.

You don't need to aquire every Property to advance to the Finale.

You can do all but two and then the Final act opens up.

If you do the flying Cars cheat, Hilary haul asswill get airborn and end up on a roof or explode. Then you can just take your time.

I spawned a golf cart and used that, just to be a prick.

On the mission to race Hillary, I left a Comet by the bridge just to the right of the police station in Vice Point (?). The added speed and handling (especially) more than made up for the time I lost in switching cars. It still took me a few tries though.

I finally had to do that with a Banshee.

haha so so far i'm the only one who didn't cheat? i tried leaving a car right around the corner, but it was gone after the cutscene. i tried to get out of the car and blow him up with the rocket launcher a couple times right after the race started, but he took off too quick. i finally managed to do it straight up, so it IS possible. you just need some luck on your side.

Actually, I don't consider that cheating, I consider it good planning. Cheating to me is using codes and such.

The trick to the car being there is that it has to be at the first corner and you have to get out of it quickly enough to leave the door open. Then you run to the club. If you enter another car, the car you left disappears.

I also tried blocking the road with a packer and a bus but couldn't get those ideas to work.

G-Spotlight isn't that tough with a bike -- there are a few places where you can get back onto the roofs if you fall off. There's more than enough time where you can take your time to do each jump -- if you try to blaze through each jump, more than likely you'll just splat.

I'm playing through it again myself and making a save at each important point (2nd island open, can buy businesses, Sonny is dead, etc.). I'm not really bothering to get packages this time -- once you have 30 (Python), all the other stuff isn't really needed, especially once you have the mansion.

The mission that gives me the most trouble is Checkpoint Charlie -- The Driver is a cakewalk compared tothat.

In a game as open ended as GTA: VC I can't call that cheating. I call that thinking outside the box a bit. We're *supposed* to be able to get through missions multiple ways, right?

You know, you guys may have done just enough to get me to pick up VC again (when I'm not in a Metroid Prime mood that is).
