Default Phantasy Star Online - HELP!!!!!!!

I recently bought PSO for my Dreamcast second-hand.

I load up the game and the first thing it does, is ask for me to enter a security code.

However - conveniently, the seperate piece of paper that has the code on it, is missing!!!!

Is there any way to find out the code? Or am I stuck with a useless game?

    Thanks.

As far as I know, the security code registers that disc to whatever console it is used on, but it can only be used once. That is, you can't use a PSO game to get online more than once, but at this late date, I doubt you can play it online. Sega shut down the DC servers a while back, almost a year ago if I'm not mistaken. I remember reading in EGM that Sega did this so people wouldn't register their disk more than once and try to cheat online. I don't know if that would keep you from playing an offline game, but I also remember the pre-owned price of PSO discs dropping rapidly because of this. For that reason, I don't think it even matters that you don't have the code.

Somebody else might be running PSO servers, but some of the other folks on here would probably know more about that than I would...

But trust me, the game isn't very much fun without the online component.
Currently catching up on PSN, WiiWare, Wii U E-Shop and Xbox Live Arcade exclusives I missed.

Thanks for that. All I wanted to do was play it offline - but it still wanted the code (as soon as I clicked on New Game on the main menu).

I rang the store and he said he'd be willing to exchange/refund it - so all's not lost!

The original case for PSO was a single cd size case with a two cd insert tray. The second cd is "Sonic Adventure 2 : The Trial" demo disc. Under the top side of the insert under the PSO disk is a sticker with the serial number and access key number. My numbers are " serial number 7378349B" and "access number X59ehdP6" . I am not sure if you can use my number with your disc but you can try it. The numbers are case sensitive.

This was the USA released version.

Probably not, but that hasn't stopped me from playing a character to level 35 offline, and some others up pretty high as well :D

Very, very nice graphics for this sort of game.

Has anyone ever figured out one way or the other if it IS possible for someone to personally host PS Online? I've heard a lot of people say it "might be" possible or "should be" possible.... Has anyone actually done it though?

You'd need both the server software and an ISP that hosted static IP as well as a whole LOT of bandwith available... even if you had their server software I bet it would get costly very quickly.

I heard that too that SEGA shut down all of their Dreamcast servers. In fact on a recent G4TV.com show they mentioned if you want to play Phantasy Star on line you need something else other than a Dreamcast.

Well, for the PAL version (which I had), the serial numbers were printed on a seperate card, which was absent from the case.

But - it doesn't matter because the store owner gladly exchanged it for something else.

I will be wary in the future, and if I find another copy of PSO, I'll be sure to check that the serial number card is with it.
