It's kinda like what they did to the nes toster box by makeing it in to a top loader. The made it cheaper by puling out all the ports and silming it down. Like the A/V port (which on the snes you needed special cable to used the A/V) and the CD port.
Nothing that big. It's the same snes/Famicom . (I wounder it the blockout chip was removed like they did with the nes top loader?)
