Default SNK's SNES ports, any good?

I see the SNES and Genesis porst of SNK's Neo Geo fighting games around quite often, like World Heroes 1 and 2, Art of Fighting, etc. Since I'll won't be getting a NG anytime soon, how do these ports hold up, are they worth getting?

They're poor man's ports to be certain but if you're not getting a Neo they aren't bad. Fatal Fury 1/2 both have differences between the two. If the double plane fighting annoys you, get the SNES port which looks better and has all the characters but ditches the two planes. If you need that double-plane gameplay, go Genesis.

Art of Fighting - get the SNES port, I prefer it over the Genesis port.

Viewpoint on the Genesis has horrendous framerate and slowdown but it's still a fun game.

    hope this helps

Samurai Spirits (Shodown) is actually pretty good on the SNES, kept me occupied for months....

Fatal Fury Special isn't bad, either.

FF Special is excellent in its own right.

I have heard Art Of Fighting 2 is an amazing port.

    Samurai Showdown is very poor...

Art Of Fighting has the zooming effect and is a brilliant little game

Samurai Shodown on the SNES isn't bad... you get to play as Amakusa, that's a nice plus.

The Game Boy version was pretty good too. You could play as Amakusa, Kuroko the Referee, and even Hikyaku the Delivery Man!

Oopsie. This ain't about the GB, this is about the SNES. World Heroes 2 is also pretty good, and you can play as the bosses on there too.

I thought the Genesis games were more faithful ports, to be perfectly honest. The sprites in the Super NES versions of Fatal Fury and Samurai Shodown seem smaller and slightly compressed. In addition to that, the control is only average in both games, and there's atrocious load time in Fatal Fury. A few characters are missing in the Genesis versions of Fatal Fury and Samurai Shodown, but despite that the games just seem to look and play more like they did on the Neo-Geo. Samurai Shodown is particularly impressive even with the occassional bit of slowdown (due in large part to the enormous characters).

Out of all the Neo-Geo games that were later released on the Super NES, World Heroes 2 is arguably the best. It retains the most content from the original game, and the graphics are every bit as bright and colorful. It even improves upon the original by giving the player true four button control (as opposed to the timing dependant punches and kicks in the arcade game).

King of the Monsters 1 & 2 are passable on the Genesis. Don't know if they made it for the SNES though.

Both were made on the Super. The first one is almost a perfect port, save for smaller sprites.
