Default Grandia 2 - Best PS2 RPG so far.

YEah, I know it's an old one, but I just got it an played it.

I have to say, this is easily my favorite PS2 RPG (And I've played just about all of em). You can find a short review of it on my WORK IN PROGRESS PAGE (It's UGLY, and obviously just started) below:

    http://www.electricquarter.com/gamereview.htm

I REALLY can't say enough good things about this game. Usually I have SOME negative thoughts to everything, but this one is only the voice acting parts, and the text speed in certain points. Pretty damn minor complaints coming from me. If you haven't tried this game yet, you REALLY REALLY need to.

You know that it's just a port of the Dreamcast game, right?

I loved it too, though I thought Skies of Arcadia was a little better (a little more my style, a little faster-paced).

Glad to see you're finally getting into Dreamcast gaming, if not through the direct Sega route.

I don't know, I personally like Dragon Quarter better. Grandia II is best played on the Dreamcast (much less slowdown).

I played it on the DC and it really is a great game. I recommend it thoroughly.

If you have played the Dreamcast version it is really hard to enjoy the PS2 port. The PS2 version has smeared blurry textures and longer loading times. I played completely thru both of them but it's been a long time. It's still a great game, just not as well put together as the Dreamcast version.

What do you think of Grandia Extreme?? I would like to get it but used copies are still $40 plus. And that's if you can find it.

I originally played this game on the PS2 and the slowdown almost ruined it for me. Thank god I gave it another go around on the Dreamcast. It's a good RPG, but I wouldn't say the best...and I actually might prefer the first one of this one. Still solid though.

I played Grandia 1 on the Dreamcast and Grandia 2 on PS2 and I guess I'm just not into the Grandia series. Not my style. I think my favorite RPG on PS2 is Dark Cloud. I'm really not into newgen gaming that much though.

Grandia 1 was only on the Playstation 1 and Japanese Saturn unless you emulated it or something.

Grandia 2 is a great game, but I preferred the Dreamcast version, the Ps2 port seemed to have slowdown for me, not sure if that was for everyone or what.

Either way you slice it, Grandia 2 is a damn good game.

The PS2 port of Grandia II was done by a ghetto Korean outfit, hence its heinous technical issues, and should most definitely not be used as an indicator of the relative quality of the DC and PS2.

<shrug> Honestly, I didn't notice any slowdown or any other issues. One boss battle had a glitchy floor graphic under him, but that was it.

I really don't like the dreamcast, so we son't get into THAT discussion again here

Skies of Arcadia, too goody goody, I don't like pirates, the ship battles weren't done well, and I didn't care for the general "feel" of the game. Just personal issues.

I love this game as well and improved lot's of things on "GRANDIA EXTREME".
I don't know about it being the best rpg but it has the best rpg battle system ever made in an rpg. To be able to cancell you enemies attacks but timing it right. Or to do 2-25+ combos is just soooo much fun. I actually didnt mind gaining experience points cause the battle system was just right on.
Its also nice to see your character attack an enemy and stay there....not like most rpgs were you attack and walk back to you designated spot. I wish the FF series would do something like this.

Xenogears, now rereleased in an ugly green-stripe-ed version. 20 bucks new, go play it. I havn't played Grandia II... was going to get it for DC but never got around to it. Perhaps I will now.

I own the PC version. I have'nt seen either the DC or PS2 versions in action, but the game plays and looks just great on the PC.

I like the game, though. Very good RPG, and better the Grandia 1 (which I had for the PS2 and had the ANNOYING habit of locking on a regular basis! Maybe cause it's a PS1 game?)

That's because you haven't played the Dreamcast version, but there seems to be no convincing you that you're dismissing a great system - even despite the fact that your favorite PS2 RPG is better on that system.

True, I'm sure I would have enjoyed it, maybe even more on the dreamcast. Honestly, up until about a month ago, I didn't even KNOW it was ON the dreamcast. We don't all have to like the same systems. I love the jaguar, and hate the dreamcast. And I'm holding back every reason and bit of arguing about it because we've gone through this

Personally, I think the best PS2 RPG so far has been... hmm.. *ponders*

    US type:
    Baldur's Gate: DE

    JAP Type:
Kingdom Hearts.. FF-X and Xenosaga were just to much cut scene.

Ugh.....Grandia II blows this game out of the water. Course, I haven't played the PS2 version. Heard it had problems.
