Default Hello (again), nice to meet you... question on SNES game...

Hi there... I posted an introduction, on the main topic.

I have a question regarding Super Metroid for the SNES. I have seen three different versions of the boxes and wanted to see if any gurus knew the difference. There is the Player's Choice box, and then I have seen two different 'regular' boxes. In the top right of the Super Metroid box are the words 'Only For Nintendo' (see picture) and then a box that does not have the orange background... any ideas?

Also... I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to collecting. Is there a definitive resource for the entire contents of a game box when it is released? Inserts, manuals, caution books, etc...

To the best of my knowledge they are all American releases simply because the SNES boxes are much different for other countries.

It's really just a change in packaging between the initial release of the game and the later release.

The games are the same as is pretty much all that's in the box, it's just that Nintendo introduced the "only for" campaign/gimmick after Metroid was released. Thus, given that Metroid was one of the most notable and more successful exclusive on the system, Nintendo merely added in the additional marking(s) in the packaging printruns made after the campaign/gimmick began.

I've never seen the "Player's Choice" box for Super Metroid. Do you have a scan of this one as well?

No, but I have a sealed copy of the player's choice Super Metroid... I'll see what I can do to get you one. It's the same as the above for the most part, but the 'Only for Nintendo' has been replaced by the million seller seal.

So, which do you think is the first run? The black or orange background? Anyone?

Well, if NvrMore is correct then the first run would be the one without the "Only for Nintendo" on it. Right? And the "Player's Choice" would be the last.

NvrMore would not be correct, because I have a first run Super Metroid box and the 'Only for Nintendo' logo is in a green slime style of font against a black background.

I've heard about the PChoice version of SM. But never seen it in person.

As for being a completist. That's good for you. But I'm satisfied if it has the outter box, the inner box (If applicable and removable), the game and manual. I'll forfeit the posters and extra papers and just count them as extra bonuses. I'd go CRAZY if I had to check on every little thing.

I doubt there's a resource out there that's that specific as to keep a record of every paper included in a box.

Hell, lately I've stopped caring about most Rereleases and just gotten them if they're complete. For instance, my PSX and DC collections have about 5 games among them that were "Greatest Hits" or "Mega Hits". But I've stopped caring and having to tell the clerk at the GS or ask the person on eBay if the case I will get is original or rereleased. Too much work.

Though, in the case of NES games, I'll go for both versions as there weren't many. If you can actually tell the difference between them. I have both Metroids. One with the original label and one with the drawn one.

Haven't gotten any SNES ones yet.
