Default Any of you guys ever read SEGA SATURN MAGAZINE?

I highly recommend this legendary archive of goodness for all you Saturn gamers who love magazines, as I am.

It took me two years before I finally got a good number of them (there are 37 total) and the wait has been worth it.

It's very pricey though, and you know how oversea shipping can be!

But yeah, I love SSM and was wondering if anyone else here shares the loves. The best magazine I ever read. A perfect companion for the Saturn enthusiast. It was just the best. 100 pages of color. About 9 by 12. Humor, good pictures, good reviews, showcases etc.

There was a Top 50 list in issue 28 that I posted at 5 various places on the net. That was very fun for me to share some of SSM with the gaming world.

When I look at EGM today I get kinda sad. They just don't make em like they used to

Where the heck did you get these, anyway?
Is there a list of ratings for Saturn releases, like the ones they print in recent issues of EGM? If so, I would really appreciate it if you could scan the pages and send them to me.

I should mention SSM was based out of the UK and thus mainly focused on UK games. Still, they had decent JPN games coverage (heck, Vampire Savior was on the cover of one issue, and they hyped Radiant Silvergun WAY BEFORE the game hit triple figures)

BTW I got them off eBay... your best bet I say. But again, there is a high demand for them. Maybe not by tons and tons of different people but the couple/several who want them are willing to pay some heavy cash.

I'll provide some links for more info:

Finally... to read the epic (humble I am!) Top 50 Saturn Games List thread go here:

    Enjoy everyone.
I love SSM... sometimes I look at them and still can't believe I finally got them. What a truly great gift set for any diehard!
And they did the best walk-thrus too! i.e. Grandia, which they reviewed and rated 97%!
They did the best of anyone in the UK to keep the Saturn rolling.

I actually saw a whole lot (complete set maybe) go on Yahoo Japan not long ago, for extremely cheap. Old magazines don't carry much value in japan. The shipping would kill you though.

If you're a big Saturn fan, I recommend Sega Saturn Super -- has demo/movie CDs in side. Very nice. I've got a couple myself.

    EDIT:
While we're on the topic, there was a magazine that talked about Radiant Silvergun before it was released in the arcades. It had some scans in it, and the designs (ship, some enemies too I think) were quite different from the final release. I thought of buying the set, but this was just before I moved, and it would've been about 2 big boxes, which probably weighed as much as rocks.

I actually own a COMPLETE set of this mag, with all the cover cd's including Xmas nights and disc 1 of panzer dragoon saga.

It was easier for me, as I'm in the UK and bought it regularly.

But your right....it was a fantastic mag. If you get a chance check out a UK mag called "Maximum" which I believe was done by the same people...It was only a short run mag, but it was multiformat, covering PS, Saturn, Neo geo, 3DO, PC and arcade.

It was an AWESOME mag, possibly my favourite ever...they went into such depth with the games, 4, 5, or 6 pages!

I've got a whole set of this too, and I think it was the most Hardcore gaming mag ever!

First thanks for the kind words Funk.

Metal, yes, I've heard of how great MAXIMUM is. There are some ads of it early on in SSM's life (i.e. issue 6 or so)

I didn't get the SSM demo discs but it's all good. I still need issues 1-3 though, and my set will be complete.
