Default Cool Goodwill Find - Gameboy Player for $12!! (Pics)

I was making a quick run through my local Goodwill, expecting only Genesis/NES stuff, and came across this little baby:

Not a find of the year by any chance, but I've been wanting one of these for a while, but didn't want to spend $50 yet. It has never been opened and works great. I know stores like Target sometimes donate these things for tax reasons, so I guess thats what happened here. The only negative is that my GC is Plat and the player is Black. But I'll settle for a duo-tone GC/GPB anyday.

Just wanted to share my good luck.

Nice find. I never find any good deals in the wild, let alone actually finding a game at a place like goodwill.

I actually asked about this once, as I noticed a steady stream of Target cast offs in my Goodwill. I was told that if the merchandise is out of season or not selling (or sometimes a return that's missing a screw or a "I didn't like it" return"), Target will sell it to Goodwill for a severely reduced rate, rather than clearance racking it in their own stores. (Maybe they don't want to clutter up the isles with stuff no one really wants.) Goodwill then prices the items based on what their original selling price was. I don't know exactly how, but it's supposed to be a percentage of the original price.

I've found this to be kind of left up to the individual store managers as the Goodwills I visit that I've noiced tend to be higher priced have the Target items higher priced as well. Sometimes these prices approach original retail, sometimes there's a bargan to be had. In the videogame world, I've seen GC games ranging from $30 to $10. So finding a $50 piece of hardware for $13 is on the low side of what I would have expected.

Sidenote: I don't know about anyone else, but as a fairly regular thrifter, I've noticed Goodwills around here getting a lot more Gamecube stuff from Target than any of the other consoles. There seemed to be a period where there was a wave of Xbox accessories that came through, but the PS2 stuff I've seen has been few and far between. I've seen all manner of GC accessories and several games, usual in multiple copies.

I concur, in the little bit of thrifting that I have done I have found more Nintendo stuff than anything else....and this is in a fairly dry area as far as thrifting is concerned. Some Nintendo finds I passed on:

    Wavebird (new) - $15
    Golden Sun 2 guide - $5
    NGC-GBA cable - $3

everything but the wavebird was banged up a bit, and I only passed on the wavebird so a friend could get it. Odd, no?

It's not just Target that brings their surplus to Goodwill stores. A lot of other stores do the same thing... I've found a top of the line Olympus digital camera with all the trimmings for just one hundred dollars, and an optical mouse for just four bucks. I couldn't afford the camera, but you'd better believe I snapped up that mouse!

That's what My Goodwill does now.
And they pack so much crap in there you can't tell what is what.
So then you have to wait for a "sales associate" to come and unlock it and hand you things one at a time like a frickin Jewelry Store.

All 4 of the Goodwills I frequent have the locked glass cases now. 3 of them have taken advice from me (and I'm sure others) and put the games so you can see the titles/prices.
The last one, I swear everytime I'm in there the same old crackwhore counter-lady helps me (acting like she's doing me a favor all the while). I think in the last 6 months I've bought 2 games at that store, both were left in the book/tape section instead of the game case. I usually have her show me the games just to waste her time
