I've posted before that i'm interested in a NEO GEO and I see a lot being sold from JApan at prices I can buy. Would I be able to play these systems in the US without worrying about hooking up to the TV or plugging into the wall?

No problem, but be aware that all carts, regardless of their origin, will be in Japanese. However, you get blood and all that fun stuff as well. Search the forums and you'll find tons of topics with the same question.
And don't forget, those cheap prices you pay for Japanese Neos will more than likely made up for in shipping charges.
