Default I plugged in my DDR pad upside down

Okay, I'm an idiot. I plugged in one of my DDR pads upside down. Now it not only won't register, but it won't read the memory card while that pad is plugged in. Did I fry the pad?

I must ask... doesn't it not fit? :/

And it wont work (i assume) in either controller port, but other controllers/pads will?

How did you even get it to fit....aren't the controller plugs designed to only fit in one direction???

It fits either way. I didn't think it would so I wasn't careful about it... then I plugged it in upside down and noticed that the plug is small enough that the molding of the socket doesn't prevent plugging it in the other way.

Yep... but they key is, have I fried the pad? Other controllers work in that port, but the pad no longer does.

    What console, and what pad?

I'm assuming PlayStation family and certainly a non-licensed controller. If so I can probably help you....

You blew a surface mount fuse on the motherboard. If your skilled at soldering let me know EXACTLY what console model number it is and I'll tell you how to fix it...... and send you the parts.

On the console, I'm 100% sure.

That's a great offer chadtower. I'd take it. If you have a busted PS1 around, and Mr. Jessop tells you exactly which fuse (if he won't post which fuse it is for the rest of us, a continuity test should reveal which one is blown) you could lift a same rated SMF from the other busted PS1.

Voila! Third party peripherals often seem to be the culprit for these sorts of internal failures. Third party saves you no money when it zaps your console.....

The part that makes me wonder, though, about it being the console is that my other, identical DDR pad works in that port (when plugged in properly, don't want to fry another).

I do have two PS1s but they both work just fine... every place I see them for sale in the wild they want like $30 for them, which I'm not about to pay for a likely beaten up unit.

I missed the part about "the other pad works" and focused on the memory card not working. Sounds like the pad is bad. The controller port 3.3 v is fused at 600 ma and the 8 vdc at 800 ma and that's what the controllers (3rd party) usually blow.

Now here is a deal since I didn't read it right, I'll send you a "real" dance pad in exchange for your dead one.....honest!

And I'll throw in a new memory card.

    Leave me a message
