Default Unknown Apple? Computer Game early 90's?

When I was in middle school (90-92 I believe) one year I took a computer class and when you finished your work you could pick a game to play. There was this one I really liked but I didn't get to play it very much. It was on a large floppy for apple I believe. It was in color too and rpgish I think.
You were like the grandaughter or neice of this eccentric scientist who had dissapeared? His experiment had a lot of hoops and when you figured out how to turn it on you went to another world where animals were like people or something like that.
It sounds crazy and it's fuzzy in my memory, but I would really like to play this again!!!! Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

That's it!!!!! THANK YOU!! That was a super fast response too. I was starting to think I had dreamed that from too many fruit scented markers during that time.
I'm going to go find an emulator and play it!

Also available for C64... which was the original version to come out. By Interplay of all people. A game that I really do like, even though I'm not a fan of adventures
