    Default PHANTASY STAR ONLINE??

I JUST GOT A USED COPY OF PSO FOR MY DC AT EB GAMES. WHEN I WENT TO TRY IT OUT, I COULD NOT GET BY THE CODE SCREEN.
IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO RESET THIS GAME? iF NOT, WHY WOULD EB BOTHER SELLING THIS GAME USED IF YOU CAN'T EVEN USE IT? I'M SURE THIS WAS COVERED BEFORE, BUT I DID NOT HAVE THE GAME AT THE TIME. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED!

Did the copy that they gave you have a code printed on the inside of the CD case underneath where the CD would be? If not, you should return it since the game won't work without an access code, and really furthermore, it won't work online if the code's been used online before (you could call Sega and get it working but that is probably quote the pain).

Used's PSO's are something along the lines of selling Everquest used since each online code gets tied down to a single Dreamcast, hardware and all.

The biggest problem you'll have with a USED copy of PSO is that it's USED. If the prevous owner decided to go online with it, then your code is already tied in with their particular machine, rendering ANY other machine that tries to use that same code INVALID.

You should be able to play it OFFLINE, but going ONLINE is going to be a problem. There's a way around this too, I believe. Something about flashing the Dreamcast memory and then calling Sega to have your registration number reset. I'll see if I can find a PSO guru to step in and answer that - unless someone here already knows the procedure?

I bought a used PSO (ahh, memories...), and all I had to do to go online was call sega up and ask that they erase my code's previous owner's character from the computer. It took the good folks about 6 hours before i could get online...no big deal. Oh, and there was no danger of the previous owner going online, because it was highly unlikely that he/she would have an extra copy of the game they just sold used.

Much easier: take a quick trip to your local Circuit City, I saw the ones by my apt. had multiple NEW copies for about $10. Comp USA also has them, but I think they are a bit more in price.

Even simpler solution: Just call SEGA and tell them your situation. The servers are only going to be open till about the middle of January anyway, right? I'd be sure to ask if the PSO servers are even still up to start out with, but then just tell'em your story and ask for a new code.

Ya see, there was this BIG thing when PSO first came out about "character cloneing", and they didn't want items to be shared so they made it almost impossible for you to take YOUR card with YOUR character on it to another persons house. By doing this it made it so that if people wanted to play a burned or hacked copy of the game, they had to get a new serial number and password for every disk they distributed.

This led to another problem of people going out and just buying one copy of the game, looking at the pass and the serial, then returning it and doing it all over again at some other store. This in turn led to SEGA getting thousand's of call's saying, "It say's my disk is already inuse.", just like what happened to you. SEGA's solution? The horded passwords and serial number's that they kept for themselves. These arn't from pre-packaged games, they just, I guess, invented them themselves.

They must STILL have a shit load of extras somewhere. I definantly say check with them. Hope everything goes well.

Or you could simply lie and say your old DC broke and you bought a different DC and you need them to reset the serial so you can start using your new DC online with PSO.
Another day, another dollar... wake me when it's payday.
