Default The Next Forum du Jour...VOTE! (ENDS FRIDAY)

OK, Import-Mania has had a good (and lengthy) run, but maxlords and I think it's time for some new flavor in da DP hood. Here are ideas others have suggested we think would make for good discussion. What do you think? Like them, hate them? We're lookling for input here, so if you have an idea, speak up now!

    The contenders are:

Vintage Computer gaming. We know you're dying to tell us of your PC/Apple ][/Mac/C64/Sinclair etc. gaming glory days!!! Reminisce about Infocom's great days of text-based adventure games (Zork, anyone?)! Talk about the first time you discovered the glory of shooters through Wolfenstein or Doom or Quake! Or how you fell in love with RPGs by playing Lord British's Ultima games!!! (Thanks Lady Jaye )

Arcade memories. This is the realm of quarter munchers only. No home ports allowed. Talk about your favorite arcade expirences, the sights, sounds and smells. Sure, we'll talk some games too, but primarly this is nostalgia for those of us who remember the "golden days" and a history lesson for those who missed it.

Retro RPG. Get your old school RPG on in here. Talk about classics from the SNES days and earlier.

Oh yeah, if you pick other, give us a suggestion. If nothing appeals to you, don't hate, create. We're open to suggestions.

Vintage PC gaming has alot of potential for ALOT of discussion IMHO and personally thats one I can contribute alot to the discussion, I sure have some arcade memories, but limited worth discussing, retro RPG, I kinda feel like alot of the potential discussions on this topic have been done already many times

    Thats just my 3 cents

I personally would enjoy an Arcade forum, but I think that the vintage PC forum would be a bit more active. There seems to be a good number of C64/IIe/XE folks on here.
RIP bargora, you will be greatly missed. That is how we do things on Giedion Prime.

I would like an arcade forum, but a retro PC gaming forum would be more useful methinks...of course, set up a forum and there'll be discussion in it either way

I voted for vintage pc gaming. It seems there are few resources for people interested in old pc games (like me). I want to know how I can play Sierra's Gold Rush or the early King's Quest games on a modern PC.

Personally I think the Import Forum should actually be kept as a permanent place now, and hence not removed. But that's just my opinion :P

I want an arcade Forum. But I am not to sure about the memories part. I would like to discuss stuff about arcades, but I wasnt alive for the 'golden age'. Ugh, I go for one thing and get another.

PS- Im sure you guys were already thinking about this, but I consider myself partially responsible for this.

Dang, I guess the shmup forum's been ruled out... eh, the arcade forum's close enough. There, I can sing the praises of my arcade in the market. Samurai Shodown V... yum.

Like MarioAllStar, I also wasn't there in the golden age. I do actually remember a Vendetta machine in the arcade in my local mall, back in the early 90's. Of course, being able to walk, and not much else, I didn't play it. Dang.

We had a shmups forum, once upon a time. We want to keep with something new and different.

(Note to rest of forum, I'm not paying these people to keep requesting shmups. )

As for Arcade Memories, I guess it doesn't have to be that strict or anything. I was just thinking of something a bit more specific than arcade games as we can talk arcade games in the main and emulation forums, and we can talk tech stuff in the restoration society. I think narrowing it down will help stimulate the conversation, but it doesn't have to be too narrow.

Does that make sence? I'm crusing on no sleep here.

Well, I'm just saying, most of my noteworthy arcade memories are from the past 2 years or so, which doesn't seem to be the timeframe you're mentioning

I voted Arcade but the more I think about it the vintage pc one sounds really interesting. I've got stories, questions, and information about both so either one gets a thumbs up from me.

The RPG one ... I just won't visit, I have nothing to add and no real interest to read. The last RPGs I got into were Wizardry, Bard's Tale, and Wasteland. I can't imagine talking about just those for months on end.

I picked other... maybe something like a challenge type theme? As in high scores, time trials, etc. much like twingalaxies, only using an honesty system.

That or I'll second the porn pic forum

Funny - about a week ago, I was thinking that we should replace the imports forum with an arcade forum. My thinking, beyond memories and fondness, was to include arcade game collecting, resortation and projects, and arcade-related other stuff (marquee collecting, building the perfect slug, etc.) It was mentioned earlier that there are already places for these areas of discussion; however, I think a dedicated forum might spark more interest. For example, I love reading about arcade restoration and other projects, but rarely ever check out the restoration society. Sure, that's my fault, but an arcade forum welcoming that talk might spawn some good stuff.

Failing that, the classic PC gaming forum would be wonderful. After all, I was strictly a PC gamer up until the Genesis or so, so it's a big part of my "gaming foundations." The only problem is that technically, all this PC gaming stuff could be discussed in existing forums as well. That leads to the same issue considered about arcade topics. Really, I think anything could be discussed in existing forums, it just takes a specialized forum to bring out more interest.

Arcade, then PC. That's my vote.

I voted classic PC, since I want to discuss all the old Sierra classics (ok, I know it's a little past what you mentioned above) but then again, I think it should be open to all PC-past and present.

Remember folks, Forum Du'Jour (sp) is rotating, so if we don't have arcade/pc this round, we can have it next.

What if we set up on the calander when the it will switch next? Instead of having it till it "burns out" we have a set time period on it?
