YES.

Hell Yeah its rare, it came out along the last line of great Sega Saturn Games which saw the likes of Shining Force 3, Burning Rangers and Panzer Dragoon Saga, Green Blood instead of Red, now that was classic
Games, games and more games
Be SURE to check out DP's rarity guide for the Sega Saturn... they put a lot of effort and research into it, and they deserve credit for all their hard work.
The Saturn version of House Of The Dead was one of the "Final 5" releases, along with Burning Rangers, Shining Force 3, Magic Knight Rayearth, and Panzer Dragoon Saga. It's generally acknowledged that all of the games but PDS (which may have had an additional printing) had a print run of only 5000 copies per game. PDS is the most sought-after, with SF3 a close second. Burning Rangers is the most under-rated, and Magic Knight Rayearth is dull IMO.
HOTD has got all the arcade screens, plus some new branching levels. You can also play with some additional characters. Unfortunately, the graphics are VERY pilixated, but they might have been improved had the developer been given more time. The default blood color is indeed green, but there is a cheat code (check out www.ign.com) that allows for all different colors of blood, including RED. You can also choose additional characters, one who has a gun that has to be re-loaded very often but will completely blow the head off most zombies with one shot. You can also choose a chick who has a gun with a lot of bullets that do a small amount of damage, so you can pick away at body parts until all you have is a torso with legs. :P

The rarity guide is indeed ultra-sweet!
Oddly enough, I had looked at it before but had a mental block as to its existence at the time of my previous post. I think I was just in temporary shock at having seen it go on ebay for a BIN of $75.00.
I've read reviews of the game, and the player in me says it may not be worth it even at the guide value of $40. I'm not a huge fan of shoot-the-screen games, and I've got HOTD2 for Dreamcast.
The collector in me, on the other hand, would send me stumbling, zombie-like, cash in fist, toward the nearest copy.

It's a fun game, though not as graphically intense as HotD 2.
I would say, grab the Japanese version if you were looking just to play. It's about $20 cheaper and the language is in English (though not the subs). But, then again I'm a big light-gun game fan.
Don't forget, X Box is getting HotD 3 in the next few weeks.
I should be getting a Saturn tomorrow. I already have a copy of HotD (USA).
If I was to get HotD japan version, do i need anything special to play it on my USA Saturn?
Thanks.
Charlie
To play a JP HOTD on your US Saturn you could get a converter cart like the ST Key or PAR 4-in-1. The ST Key is strictly a converter cart, while the Pro Action Replay 4-in-1 is a converter cart that also has RAM and gamesave memory built in. I bought an ST Key because it's cheaper than the 4-in-1, but now I'm wishing I'd spent the extra on a 4-in-1, because the internal gamesave memory in a Saturn is really small. Also, you lose the saved games in the internal memory when the battery goes dead, or if you change the battery (although I've read that you won't lose it if you change the battery while the console is powered up, but I'm not sure how safe that is).
So I ended up also buying a gamesave memory cart later, when I should have just bought a 4-in-1 to begin with. Now I hear that some games I might want to play (mostly fighting games) require additional RAM, which comes with the 4-in-1. Plus, if you want to play some import fighters on an unmodded U.S. Saturn, I believe that you would have to have the 4-in-1, because swapping from an ST Key to a RAM cart with the power on is likely to fry things.
So I would say you should go for the 4-in-1.

Has anyone here been able to get the so called "good" ending in HotD? I have this game and I've played it with cheats for unlimited ammo and invincibility and I blow away everything and get to the end and no matter how many innocents I avoid shooting I still get the same "bad" ending. What's the deal?
I've been looking for HoD for years. It's one of the last Saturn games Ineed, but I've been putting it off (not wanting to pay $50+ for it).
Tempest
just a quick FYI here the Saturn mod chip does not defeat the country codes like all other chips. You will need a cart to do that.
Fear your thoughts because they become your words
Fear your words because they become your actions
Fear your actions because they become your habits
Fear your habits because they become your character
Fear your character because it becomes your destiny
Therefore: Thinking and nurturing positive thoughts, at any point in your life, can change your destiny.
i bought a US saturn and Jap saturn... i was too lazy to get a 4-in-1 cart. heh.
also got radiant silvergun, tamomaru psychic killer, shining force 3 premium disc, vampire savior, and a few other imports with my Jap saturn
Nice! Been looking for that one too...tamomaru psychic killer

Just a guess, but I suspect that you'd have to do as well without the cheats. Remember all the games that give you different endings based on the difficulty level? Might be like that.Originally Posted by Zaxxon

I thought about that but I may have been using cheats from my Action Replay cart, which the game wouldn't detect.

what about the PAL version?
Does anyone know what's required of you to get the good ending and how is it different? I seem to recall reading that the Japan version only has green blood unlike the US version which has Red, green and purple blood with a code. Didn't HotD 1 also come out for DC in Japan?
Whilst on this subject, i am needing of a Manuel and Box art for the Saturn HotD, if anyone has it and want to trade/sell, pm me.
Thanks
I am in fact the guy that made the Raisins prototype worth thousands less by dumping it. "D'oh!!"
