Using giant Arcade Sticks for non fighting games? Any good?

When it comes to playing games like Tekken and Marvel vs. Capcom and stuff like that, I would imagine that using those giant Arcade Sticks would be super sweet.

But what about playing Super Mario World with them? Or playing Tomb Raider?

Would these arcade sticks be total crap for non fighting games?

Of course, I'm sure that these sticks would be great for games like Pac Man and Galaxian, but what about using them with your average Genesis games and SNES games, and N64 games, etc, etc, etc,.

I was thinking about getting one of those X-Arcade Solo sticks. But I'm not a huge fighting game fan. So I don't know if I would be making a really huge mistake or not.

Speaking of the X-Arcade, I know that they make adapters so that you can use it with the PS1, but what about the Sega Saturn? I would love to play all the great Saturn shooters with that thing. Was there ever any adapters back in the day that let you use a PS1 controller on the Saturn? If you had one of these things, and you used it with a X-Arcade stick that had the PS1 adapter on it, would it work okay?

AHH, that question brings to mind way back when the NES Advantage was released. I begged my Mom forever to spend, I guess it was like $30-$40 if I remember right, for that big ole' joystick. I loved using it on some of my games, espcially Skate or Die for some reason, but games like Mario Brothers I hated it.
That is the only comparison I can give you, because since then I have saved myself the trouble and just gave up on joysticks! (I don't play enough fighting games to spend the dough on one).

i would figure that they wouldnt work so well with games other than fighting games... especially not fast paced games .... like FPS.. that would probably be horrible.. games that require only 1-3 buttons would probably work ok with it... but it wouldnt feel too comfortable in my opinion...

also when i saw "giant arcade sticks" ... it made me think of playing with like... an arcade stick that uses ur whole body like the DDR Pads.. lmao.. where u would stomp the buttons, and have a huge joystick as tall as u are and u gotta hold on and swing it around... that'd be crazy.. yet i would be the first to buy one..

They work fine for arcade ports and other arcadeish games. I'd imagine a PS stick works fine with R-Type Final, and a DC one works with Mr. Driller fine. But there are games they don't work well for at all-notably, 3d platformers.

They work great for 2D shooters as well. Back in the NES days I used the advantage for everything except for Tecmo Bowl and Punchout for some reason. I has a huge stick for Genesis as well that worked great for almost everything.

About the only games that won't play better with a proper joystick are ones that use a pad's shoulder buttons as left and right relative controls (like a lean to the left or right), or ones that require analog control. Though I haven't played the bug-ridden garbage that is Super Mario World in years, I wouldn't think of playing it with a pad.

When I read giant joysticks, I was picturing those Giant Joysticks
they used in the movie "joysticks" for competition.

I can't stand playing games with two thumbs when you could
be playing with both hands. I use the arcade style joysticks for
almost everything I play.
