Default Old games that seem incomplete/lack polish

Upon noticing the Clash at Demonhead topic, I couldn't help but remember that the game always seemed incomplete to me. I can't quite place my finger on what that one aspect was--I need to go back and play it again.

One game I always think of when I hear "lack of polish" is Strider on NES. I love the game, but there are minor quibbles with the game that drag down it's quality. It may sound like I'm complaining here, but I'm really not.

    - Jumping issues. Making Hiryu jump can be a chore, especially when it comes to the dreaded triangle jump.

    - The game feels totally random. It feels like I'm going through the game with no set goal or agenda. There is no "flow" to it at all.

    - There are also some minor graphical hiccups that could have been ironed out.

Anyone else notice these? Any other games you'd like to mention that feel unfinished?
RIP bargora, you will be greatly missed. That is how we do things on Giedion Prime.

Dude I hated that stupid triangular Jump in Strider for the Nes It so used to get on my last nerve trying to do that.

You know what also used to bug me was the bomb placement in the original metroid while you were in ball form.

What happened to the ending in Ikari Warriors on the nes all that work for congrats screen you think they would have taken the time to at least add an ending.

    thanks

Strider does feel very incomplete. The play control is a bit sloppy, especially when Hiryu jumps. And the areas feel a little uninspired. It still manages to be fun though despite these setbacks. The game got canceled in Japan, and those issues are probably the reason.

Some arcade games have that less than complete feel. Case in point? Beastie Feastie, aka The Glob. You'd swear from playing it that it was a cheesy EGA shareware game, rather than a coin-op.

In 1983, a number of ColecoVision games seemed to be incomplete. Certainly Victory, and Mr. Do!, Time Pilot, and Space Fury all seemed rushed out, as if one step before actually being 100% complete. Possibly the same for Frogger, Popeye, and Q*Bert, too.

    Same with Dam Busters.

alot of the next-gen titles of today feel un-polished, especialy companies that try and get their games out right before the holiday season...

You do know that the CBS version of Victory was a much more polished product than the original release, right?

As for unfinished games, Megaman Soccer comes to mind.

I've heard about it, but I've never seen it. I know that the "Quarks" are supposed to be released, and those "phantom signals" on the radar are not there.

Are the graphics any better? Quite frankly, on the regular version, they are pathetic.

Yup. Enemies drop paratroopers, paratroopers become scouts, scouts release quarks. Most engaging!

I don't think the graphics are any better, but I rather liked the graphics myself (especially the big "ring explosion" when you die).
