What is the most underated System of all time?

In your opinion, what is the most underated system of all time?

I just got a virtual boy and mario tennis, and boy is it REALLY fun. This system is unlike any other gaming experience I have ever had, and I now plan on collecting every game for it (including some jap games)

The TurboGrafx-16/TurboDuo.

I only know 2 people besides myself that had a TurboGrafx from back in the day.

I have personally owned almost every system, when they were in their prime and sold in stores, that was released from the NES era onward, and the Turbo is the only system that I have NEVER sold and play to this very day. That's a pretty amazing feat... in my own book. I guess it's just a testiment to how entertaining the system is. Another testiment is the fact that I do not own a current gen console because the Turbo provides more than enough enjoyment to near solely occupy all of my gaming time.

It's a shame that it did not see more success when it mattered. It seemed like it was almost written off back then, and it seems like it still is today.

Definitely the V-Boy. Wario Land is such an outstanding game and hardly anyone will ever be able to experience it.

Most Underrated?

For Most Underrated due to Horrible Sales, I would nominate the Atari Jaguar. The Jaguar had a ton of games, and a ton of awesome looking stuff in development for it when the plug was pulled. There was a lot that could have been done witht this system, but it was never brought to fruition, if you will.

For Most Underrated Hardware, I would go with the Atari Lynx. That sucker had more power than anyone knew what to do with. Still very impressive to this day.

For Most Underrated Overall System, I would nominate the Dreamcast. Nearly every game in the Dreamcast library is a solid entry, and it had a pretty extensive library that doesn't seem to get the recognition that other libraries of similar sizes and popularity get.

Wario Land and Mario Tennis are 2 games I loved!

My vote goes to Virtual Boy as well....it's a gaming experience unlike anything else, and I wish it would've went over better than it did.

I would have to say the Amiga CD32. There's loads of good games on it and it was the first 32-bit console in North America. (Although it claims to be the first in the world)

Turbo Grafx and the PC Engine (about 1000 games in Japan!!)!! I too had one when I was a kid. And I still love it today.

Definitely the Atari 7800, Virtual Boy, and Saturn. All great systems, but not many people gave them a chance.

Boy... it's a hard choice. I'd have to go with either the Lynx or the Virtual Boy.

Considering the time frame, the Lynx was an excellent system... great graphics, and easily exceeding the Gameboy in it's capabilities. I also thought the whole screen-flipping thing was a stroke of genius, and playing games in vertical was a neat idea too. It's really too bad the Lynx didn't catch on. At least we got some great Atari arcade games for it.

The Virtual Boy is kind of a gimmick system, but I think it's a gimmick that really deserved more attention. 3D and virtual reality is (to me) the ultimate in making immersive games, and the Virtual Boy is about the closest we ever got to consumer level VR (unless you count the Victor Maxx stuff). I still say that if Nintendo came out with a color Virtual Boy, I'd buy it. Having monochrome graphics in the "32-bit age" really win any friends for this system.

Definitly the Dreamcast, within' its very short life span we were blessed with a very large array of solid titles, that's definitly the next system I'll be collecting for when I finish snes

Even though there are much sexier choices, I would have to say that the Dreamcast without a doubt is the most underrated system. Sure I could say the TurboGrafx-16, and the Sega Saturn, but damn the Dreamcast was a damn good system that simply didn't get the love it deserved.


There was a time when I had both a DC and a PS2, and I thought that the DC actually had more freaking power under the hood. Of course years have gone by, and the PS2 is ultimately a more powerfull system, but the DC could more than hang with the PS2 during the PS2's early years. And alot of the games that were on both the PS2 and the DC looked better on the DC. This was due mainly to the fact that the DC had the majority of it's games running in 480p while the PS2 didn't.


To me, the TurboGrafx-16 and the Sega Saturn had legitimate reasons to be overlooked. Both were marketed by total idiots. Both of them had tons and tons of great games in Japan that never came over here. It was mis-management all the way.

As to the Dreamcast, I really don't think that Sega of America could be faulted regarding the Dreamcast. Unfortunately too many people were brainwashed by the "Playstation" name and the Sony brand. It wasn't Sega's fault. They did everything they could. The DC should have been the dominant system till about 2003 when the PS2 and Xbox would have finally passed it just by pure technological strength.
