    Default 'Experience' Games...

I am a big fan of what I call 'Experience' games. These are games that don't take a whole lot of skill or thinking but are a sensory experience. The best examples of these type of games would probably be Rez (Dreamcast, PS2) or Vib Ribbon (Japanese/European PS1).

Other similar type of games would be Panzer Dragoon & Panzer Dragoon Zwei for the Saturn.

Anyway I am looking for any reccommendations for this type of game for whatever system...old or new...

I guess Starfox(SNES) and particularly Starfox 64(N64) would fit into this catagory.
and a MUST HAVE for you will be "Unity" (gamecube) which will be out soon(hope so).a type of music-shooter where music changes with graphics....

HA. When you said "experience" games first thing I thought about were RPG's. You know how you gain "experience" in....oh nevermind.

Some good ones of those would be I guess like Grand Theft Auto. Not much to think about there. Just run over people, off cliffs, and blow stuff up. Quite an "experience".

Experience games.....hum, trying to think of some myself. Well, I'd say Xenosaga was one. Perhaps Final Fantasy 7. I'm sure some of the early arcade games like Space Invaders, Star Wars, and Tempest could be considered some as well.

Definitly Xenosaga for ps2. 75% of the time you are watching FMV movies. DEFINITLY a lazy mans game its still good though

Also kirby's air ride on gamecube. I do not own it but from what I read, you could basicaly put your controller down and win the race in 1st place

I don't think RPG's are at all what he's looking for. I think he's looking for something more abstract and less traditional.

Unfortunately, there really aren't a lot of good "experience" games out there. Rez is the first one that comes to mind... Frequency and Amplitude may be up your alley (although I haven't tried either of them). Tempest 2000 (or 3000 if you have a Nuon) might fit the bill too. P.N.03 is sort of in the same vein, but there's no real integration with the music, and ends up being a lot more conventional (It's a pity really... if this game had more rhythm to it, it could have been really amazing).

I've never played Fantavision either, but I always see it in the bargain bin and think it might be along the same lines as these games too.

I was really looking forward to Unity, but I haven't heard much about it lately. I sure hope it still ends up coming out.

'Experiance games'... hmmm... after all my brain power at work, all I came up with was fzero for gc. Hold 'A' and steer, not much to it. Of course it can take alot of practice at knowing the tracks and turns to be the best

Well, if we include F-Zero GX... then we might as well mention it's N64 father, F-Zero X. it doesn't have quite as good graphics, but it's still plenty fun.

Now that I think about it, "I, Robot" might fit in with this crowd too.

He seems to be talking about on rails games. He mentioned great titles such as panzer dragoon, rez, maybe he would like frequency or amplitude (did you try panzer dragoon orta?) If you are looking for on-rails games on next-gen systems, they are very far and in-between.

I know kinda what you mean. I'm a fan of this style of game as well. You might even categorize them as games where the score or end of the game means absolutely nothing and in most cases doesn't even exist.

See if these fit your definition. Great games that can take up as much or little time as you'd like and really encourage you to see and create as opposed to win:

    Atari 2600 Video Life
    Commodore 64 Web Dimension
most of the games in the Sim line: SimCity, SimAnt, even The Sims
    TurboDuo Loom
PSX Aquanaut's Holiday or Tail of the Sun

System Shock 2 for the PC might count, if what you're wanting to experience is terror, fright, and / or horror.
You are startled by a grim snarl. Before you, you see 1 Red dragon. Will your stalwart band choose to (F)ight or (R)un?
