Default Greendog the Beached Surfer Dude...DISCUSS!

my crappy contribution to genesis week!

for those who know....answer the following questions
    did you play it?
    did you like it?
    finish it?

    here's my answers
yes if I didn't why would I make a post about it
yes it was a pretty decent platformer with decent character designs(greendog reminded me of fido dido for some strange reasons)
    yes...yes I did

I don't know I always thought the item you assembled in the ending was pretty cool looking. but frankly the game was a run of the mill platformer, it didn't do anything evolutionary, yet I enjoyed it along.

feel free to add any insights snide comments or whatever and happy theme week?

Thanks for participating in the Theme O' the Week!

However you've got me at a disadvantage here. Though I have played the game (my friend Kevin actually bought this one when it came out and we spent some time with it the weekend after), I haven't really "played" it. Plugging it in to get screen shots or see if my emulator is working doesn't really count, does it?

    did you play it?
    Well yeah, sorta.

    did you like it?
It seemed pretty average though I haven't seen beyond the second stage. It didn't "grab me".

    finish it?
I finished putting it in the cartridge slot, that's about it though.

Hopefully someone else has a little more experience with this one!

Greendog marked the beginning of the end for Sega. The game pinpoints the exact moment when the company betrayed its Japanese roots and started pandering to braindead casual gamers with original (and very bad) American-made games.

I got up to the third level before I could stand no more. It's not bad in any sense of the word, just dull in today's standards, although it is very pretty. The beach scenes are picturesque and almost photogenic in quality.

Like Greendog, Toejam & Earl, Chakan and Dinosaurs for Hire were games conceptualized by Americans, pretty much obscure comic properties. It was a unique idea to get ahold of some previously unknown guys like that- I don't like the first TJ&E very much but everyone else does, apparently. Chakan's more my thing.

Also, Japanese roots? I call bullshit.

... i preferred normy's beach babe-o-rama, actually. greendog was cool, but his hipness was waaaay to contrived for me.

I remember getting this game when Macy's was getting out of the Game Business. I paid for it with my own money too, boy was i proud. So with that in mind, i'll toss my change into the hat.

Did I Play? Yup quite often actually, Though i will admit that its been neglected these last few years.

Did I Like? Though i didn't like some of the falling deaths i liked it quite alot for the time. If I was getting this new now, it would probably be a different story. Greendog also reminded me of Fido Dido, because of his lankyness i would think.

Did I Beat? Finally, I think i had issues getting to complete the game, before I would have to go and leave the house for a few hours, and not being allowed to leave it on.

    Yes, I played this one.

It was average, maybe a little below average but at the time I recall having fun.

I was able to win it with little to no problem. It had one of those ass bite endings just like Chakan.

Hey that's not a bad topic Idea, ... games with ass bite endings .... maybe later.

Yes, It was one of the very first Genesis games that I rented.

Yes, I thought the game was pretty decent. It had some good graphics, and the levels were kind of Pitfall-esque in their designs.

Nope, I don't believe I ever finished it.

I like to delude myself into believing that the whole "owned by Paramount" thing never happened. When I think of Sega as a subsidiary of a corporation which also brought us UPN, the Spike TV Video Game Awards, Star Trek: Oy Vey-ager, and last month's embarassing Super Bowl halftime show, my brain malfunctions and smoke starts rolling out of my ears. Rather than risking severe mental trauma, I just pretend that Sega was always a Japanese company and that its purchase by Paramount is just a nasty figment of my imagination.

LONG before the whole Paramount deal, SEGA was founded by an AMERICAN.

And my only experience with Greendog was the crummy Gamegear game, which when I traded it into the local used game store, they didn't know how much to give me for it because it wasn't in their database.

I actually really like this game. However, it's probably just nostalgia of being the first Genesis game I ever bought.

Did I play it? Actually, no. I concede to having clicked on this topic just to see what the hell "Greendog the Beached Surfer Dude" meant.
Did I like it? I like the name! That's why I clicked.
    Finish it? Nope!

    Sorry.

Doesn't this game have a nude code for the title screen?

I can get someone a complete copy locally.

That is all I can contribute, sorry.

This game is pretty bland for the most part. A basic run of the mill platformer, starring an odd looking main character. Not a horrible game, but In comparison to other platformers on the Genesis, it's very forgettable. Music is fairly catchy though.
