Default First computer/console/handheld with Retro compilation?

and I don't mean C-64/XE or Amiga with PD software, I'm more thinking along the lines of Namco Museum or Atari Anniversary.

The first I can think of is 'Microsoft Arcade' on PC from 1993 followed by 'Game Boy Gallery' on GB.
Activision's 'Atari 2600 Action Pack' dates back to 1995, so that is kinda early too.
But I can't help wondering if I remember something on SMS? Anyone?

When did the Midway and William retro packs come out for the SNES and Genesis? i thought those were before 1993.

And Atari planned to release a arcade game around 1991, I think, that had several older arcade games. I've seen a report on it somehwere -- maybe on KLOV?

    1996.

I don't know about that, but the first compilation I can remember is the one Tom mentioned. That was before MAME (at least before I had heard of it) too, and the 2600 pack released a year or two later was before I had ever seen an emulator available as well.

I don't know of an earlier SMS compilation, maybe Raccoon Lad will come to the rescue here.

Okay, the game was never actually RELEASED, but the date of 1992 makes it the oldest one that I'm aware off.

Wow, those SNES games came out MUCH later then I thought.....I thought the Genesis was dead by 1996. Go figure.

I don't know if this counts, but I'm fairly certain that there were a number of companies that used to pack some of their older games together into compilations for the C64 (and other computers I'd imagine). The games were probably only a year or two old by then though, so I don't know if you can consider them "classics" by then.
