No power on my Turbo Duo RX

I paid $200+ for a mint,boxed Turbo Duo RX and it powered up and worked fine for about 2 months...now when I tried to power up to play some Vasteel it gives no response. BTW- I took the AC plug to radio shack and they tested it and showed me it works fine. Any info appreciated.

Does jiggling the AC connector while trying to power it on do anything? Intermittent power? If not, it's likely harder to fix.

If you don't get an answer here, pm member D-Lite. If asked nicely, he may be able to help. He knows Duos inside and out.

you might want to probe around the power input hole and see if it feels loose. i bumped my duo once with the plug in and that jolt was all it took to knock it loose. had to open it up and get things straight, seems like NEC stuff isnt made to the "kid tested" standard of nintendo gear.

Bad power supplies can look good when bench tested with a voltmeter, but fail when connected to an actual device. Was the supply tested "under load"?

I'm not sure what "under load" means, but I know he said that the meter was reading 13 and only had a 9 requirement. ???? I'm not sure what these mean? Should it have registered over like that?

I took it to a reputable repair shop two nights ago and he said, after looking at it, that the microprocessor is bad. Any word on a fix for that? I hope so, I MAYBE got 10 hours of play out of it.

As a video game repair specialist, I can tell you that many reputable repair shops in my area know absolute squat about game systems, and tell customer the strangest (wrong!) things.

They don't store up game system parts, and therefore lack the ability to solve occasionally easy to remedy issues.

All I'm saying, is just because they said that, it does not mean that that is likely your problem. You still have no clue. D-Lite on these boards is the resident Duo expert.

Sorry it took so long to get to this topic! Don't normally check this part of the forums out....

To clarify, NOTHING happens when you power it up? Meaning, not even a solid colored (even white) screen? If nothing happens, I highly doubt it's the processor. Most likely an internal connection.

Also, did the repair shop actually open and test the unit? I can pretty much bet they have never seen a PC Engine, let alone a Duo RX.

One of the main concerns on these systems is the internal fuse. Fairly easy to blow as I've seen. I shorted a connection in a Turbo Duo for like one second and fried the system once. Couldn't find the exact problem as the fuse did look intact, but that system from then on did nothing when powered up. Chances are you had a power surge (I hope you use a breaker!) on your setup. Remember, the jp units have a 100V input, so we are already pushing the limit at 110-120V here in the US!

If you want, I can take a look at the system, but I can really guarantee anything! Seems no one offers any Turbo services anymore which is a real shame.

Ps I am using a "Belkin SurgeMaster" Hmm makes me wonder if you could write out a letter stating the problem (after looking at it) if their warranty would cover my loss?? Worth a try I think. Hopefully they wont notice the difference in Japan wattage.
