    Default Best Boss Names

To me, the best video game boss name that comes to mind is Lord Shaher. Doesn't that just chill your soul? Lord Shaher, a fallen angel in Tactics Ogre, is the main boss. Does anyone else have some favorite boss names?

My favorite is, without a doubt, Geese Howard. The idea that such a badassed character can have such a retarded name tickles me on some base level. I always thought it was a mix up, because if you reverseit into Howard Geese, it sound more along the line of the powerful businessman that he is.

Is Master Chief a character or a boss? Either way, he's certainly got the worst name.

I like Kefka. Short, to the point, and brings to mind German guys who write about turning into bugs.

Master Chief is his rank, and I also think it is the highest rank an enlisted man can achieve in the military.

I thought that having a name like Geese would have that "Boy Named Sue" effect on a kid, making him grow up tough.

As for boss names, I'm going to say Granfalloon from Castlevania: Symphony of Night given that he's a pretty freaky boss and the name's association with Kurt Vonnegut.

The greatest boss name of all time is simple:

    The Great Mighty Poo.

A boss that fills up a room and is entirely made out of crap and singing opera? Can it GET much better than that?

To this day I refuse to acknowledge a "Dr. Eggman". I see Robotnik, and his old puyo clone refers to him as Robotnik, so clearly that must be his name :P

I still think "Bydo" from R-Type is a pretty sweet name for a villain.

Lavos is a sweet boss name too.

    Xiga (Radiant Silvergun)
    Veinion (Axelay)
Akuma (Street Fighter, and the name actually means "demon." Gouki is also cool.)
Jaquio and Ashtar (Ninja Gaiden. Message for Clancy: HAW HAW!)
Wolfgunblood Garopa (Alien Soldier, and that game is full of kick-ass boss names.)

There are a heapload of others, I'm sure. If I find more, I shall edit the list as necessary. To say the least, bosses rule.

I think my favorite boss names were from the old AD&D games... Tyranthraxus, Tanetal, Kalistes... tons of great names that strike fear into the hearts of your level 18 fighter.

I would like to agree with you, but those names exceed the syllable capacity of my little brain.

Now, I agree with the Bydo suggestion. I always thought that was a kick-ass name. Maybe my opinion is altered on a subconcious level because it's an anagram for "body"? Maybe that's what the best boss names are all about--subliminal messages.

One of my favorite boss names is Chaos (and Final Chaos for that matter) in the Sonic Adventure games.

A little trivia: "Gnosis" is the Greek word for "knowledge".

I like pretty much all the boss names from Metal Gear Solid.
