That would be Activision's "Boxing" for the 2600. Well, boxing is fighting, ain't it? Ain't it?

If you don't want to count that, I guess it would probably be Street Fighter II Turbo for the SNES...

Mine would be Yi Ar Kung-Fu for NES. I also remember playing a karate game in the arcade many years ago that had no buttons, just 2 joysticks, that was really cool. Was that the "Karate Champ" that everyone is talking about?

The first fighting game I ever played was Street Fighter II on the SNES, which is also one of the few that I've really enjoyed. I'm not really that big on fighting games for the most part, though.

Default my history of fighting games, from the 80's-present

karate champ and punch out initially...

then on to double dragon, final fight, etc.

    then came street fighter 2.

once i had wasted a lot of money paying 0.50 for SF2 games (hey, 2 quarters for a game without a sitdown cabinet or steering wheel was nuts in '91), i moved on to cheaper 0.25 games like fatal fury and world heroes. still got whooped.

finally beat SF2 in the arcade with zangief.

went to grandparent's friends' sports bar where they put their SF2 machine on free play for me, and got pretty decent with chun li.

mortal kombat hits. got MK and FF for the genesis, and hones my skills until i could beat them in my sleep.

FINALLY got decent at SF2 turbo on the SNES in about '94-'95.

'96-99 owned an N64, so i had no fighters.

bought a DC on 9/9/99 with soul calibur, and bought every 2D and 3D figher practicaly made for the system until i sold it in 2000 when i bought my launch PS2.

late 2000-2004 - played a whole bunch of sub par PS2 fighters. GGX2 on the xbox was decent though.

2004 - realized 2D fighters are my first gaming love, even if i'm merely average at them. bought a consolized mvs, and RBFF2, garou: MOTW, KOF '99, samurai showdown, etc. with more on the way.

these i will keep forever. though i do want a dedicated SF2 turbo cabinet.

but the one I enjoyed the most was xmen vs. streetfighter cause it was much faster and crazier at the time.

Mine would be Street Fighter II for the Arcade. Played it at a friend's birthday party at some skating place. I liked it enough to rent it for the SNES and it's still one of my favorite fighting games.

The first fighting game I ever experienced first would be Street Fighter Alpha 2 for the PS1. The character I was manly the best with would be Ryu, Ken, and Akuma. I would always used to play this game with one of my oldest cousins in which he is very skillful when it comes to many fighting games.

SF2 for the SNES. There are other, earlier games I played that were *kinda* like fighting games, but not close enough for me to count them.

Sadly, I've never had an arcade near me where a Karate Champ or Yie-Ar Kung Fu machine existed.

    Arcade Kung-Fu Master, baby!

That was the first arcade game I ever "flipped". I was a small child and had a crowd watching, my parents were there when I saved the girl for the first time. Really made me feel like a winner.

That was back in the Presidio of San Francisco's Amusement Center. Sadly, the place closed back in 2002.

The whole place is now a relic, much like myself.

It lives now... only in my memories.

As far as arcades go, I'm not sure...I never played them too much since I usually didn't have anyone to go up against. A tried some but perhaps not until I got my own for my home systems.

As far as fighting games for the consoles go, I guess Boxing by Activision for the Atari VCS might have been the first. The first martial arts type game would have been Street Fighter II Turbo which was one of my first SNES games...if I recall it was my 10th or 11th cartridge for the system.

Street Fighter II. We had a couple of arcade games at my high school and this was one of them. I think MK was the other. I used to suck at this game so bad. I got the DOS version when it came out, but I wasn good with that either. Eventually I got better. The frst fighting game that I owned would still probably be SFII for the Genny, unless you count burned DC games, which I dont.
