    Default Nintendo 64DD

    How rare are these?

How hard is it to obtain one?

How hard is it to obtain games for one?

How much do the systems/games cost?

If you use the search function and type in 64DD you should find quite a few topics on it.

You can find 64DDs and most of the software on eBay on any given day. You just have to find the deal and not pay too much (I got my initial lot of 64DD and 7 programs for $300).

The hard part is finding the two mail order only games: Doshin 2 (comes in a red case) and World Tour Golf 64. They were limited to send-in and only approx 3000 units of each were available. Expect to pay $300-400 each for those should they turn up.

Not really. A lot of the ones I've seen on ebay include the box and ALL the packaging. The box type I've usually seen around is the yellow Randnet version. The one I've only seen once is the Nintendo styled one (really, REALLY nice looking).

Yeah, It's easy to find one on ebay, but the shipping from Asia is the real killer (usually around $60-$70 bucks).

I am just now looking into these, so lets get back to my first post. How much is too much for one of these, and what is the average price of one of these. i see games all the time on there complete for like 19.99, granted, the games cost more like 60 because of shipping, but thats not too bad for a system that is the rare nintendo version of a 32x. but i want to know about the average price for the system itself.

I've been looking at 64DD's on ebay for literally years. The average price is probably $300 to $350. Some lately have been trying to sell for 400 or 500. I've been waiting for the price to go down but it doesn't seem to be. Keep in mind these usually come with 3-7 games and sometimes some hardware. That price also doesn't include the $50 or whatever it is shipping.

    Default Simcity 64

Has anyone played Simcity 64? If so...could you tell me if this is playable if you don't know Japanese? I loved the SNES Simcity and really want to play Simcity 64, but before I shell out for a 64dd I want to know if I'll be able to enjoy it at all. I don't want to have to learn Japanese to play this game...but I will if I have to.

Recently, the price for the complete RANDNet Package has gone up considerably (includes the smoke gray N64, 64DD, Capture Cart, Doshin, Mario Artist, F-Zero X, etc....). I've seen it go as high as $600-700.

I think that at least one person over on ASSEMblergames has more than one, you might want to post there and see if anyone's willing to sell. Expect to pay a premium though, 64DD's are never going to be cheap. Look at the Satellaview, that's positively useless outside of Japan and it still goes for lots of cash.

Simcity on 64DD is great you can design the people using the mario artist paint studio disc then import them into simcity. You can aso explore the city you have made using the first person view mode & walk round the streets.

Be warned though there is a lot of japanese text, but if you have played many sim city games they roughly all play the same so you should be ok.

To be honest the games that get played most on my DD are the mario artist series as they are so fun, especially talent studio.

Has the 64DD been emulated (not that I care, really - I'm just curious since the add-on never officially went on sale in North America)?

The guys behind Nemu64 wanted to work on it, but from what I remember nobody knows how to dump the disks. They were asking for hardware and software donations but I don't think anything ever came of that.

I haven't actually checked up on it stuff for a while, but that's how it stood last I checked.

SimCity64 DD is often shown on Yahoo Japan for 500-1000 yen (around $4.50 to $9.75)...
