Best home video game console? I'll narrow it down to the Atari 2600, the NES, and the SNES, but ultimately, I'd probably choose the NES.

Anything Sega. Duh i picked Dreamcast. but sometimes i do enjoy Megadrive and Saturn games more than dreamcast games all the time.

I voted for the Super Nintendo, even though it might not be my favorite. The first Nintendo was my favorite of all time. I've had it for 20 years, and whenever I feel like getting nostalgic, I usually wind up playing a game from there before anything else. That said, there were way too many garbage games for it, and the Super Nintendo was terrific because it built upon the good games and made them better. Zelda (A Link to the Past) is the best Zelda game I've ever played, likewise Super Mario World 2 (Yoshi's Island). Now it terms of sports games or games where you want realism or multiplayer games, then no, modern technology has surpassed the SNES. However, if you really get down to the nitty gritty, bare bones gaming, the SNES is king. It was the last system prior to the availability of true 3D graphics and increased console power. If I were to vote for a multiplayer system, it would be the Nintendo 64.

The NES is the best. However, the snes is a very close second. But then again, one has to ask ones self, if I was stranded on an island which system would keep me entertained for the longest period of time.

I'm going to have to go with the Playstation, myself. After a long bout of PC gaming, it was the console that pulled me back to TV games.

I'm a bit late, but I definitely have to say the Super NES on this one. I may be a little biased because it's the system I grew up with, but hell, it's still my favorite system ever.

With classic multiplayer games like NBA Jam: TE and Super Bomberman from awesome singleplayer games like Zelda: A Link to the Past and Chrono Trigger, it introduced to me all of the different genres of games in an excellent way. When I was young, my oldest brother also had an NES, but none of the games gave me an epic experience like the SNES did. It may be just being used to SNES stuff, but I honestly think the SNES is greatest system ever, no contest.

I voted NES purely based on my many childhood memories and wasted nights trying to satisfy Peach only to be sent to another castle
Before that I even remember the times when I had to borrow a friend's NES to keep my gaming itch at bay. Those were the days of get-togethers with gaming sessions that lasted days.
I do, however, have very fond memories of several of the other consoles listed in the poll but the NES clearly stood out despite the SNES's massive amount of quality games - especially the numerous RPGs I've beaten over the years. How time has passed... I miss the "old" days when I had the time to play games and watch cartoons all day.

Hooray for my first post here, btw Looking forward to spending a lot more time here now that I've registered. My lurking days are now officially over

My personal favourite is the Sega Saturn, not because it was a great console, but I just love the fact that the internal hardware was basically stuck together thanks to Sega sticking a sister board inside for all the other components to "upgrade it", but the games they managed to create on it are just awesome (Nights, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Burning Rangers etc.).

I had a Master System and a Mega Drive (Genesis), but my memories of them are fading, and most of my memories that remain are playing Sonic The Hedgehog or Micro Machines...

N64 for me, I loved the controller and have spent the longest amount of console time on that console, but that's an age thing, I got one for my 15th bday just after it dropped. I voted for the NES which I now own (i use to have a sms and after that a genesis, my 1st nintendo console was the N64). I love the NES' lore and influence. Out of the others i played, the dreamcast i liked, Snes was super (i remember the new games were more expensive than the genesis ones, which put me off getting one, but i loved playing it) and the atari 2600 is bona fide classic! One of my first gaming memories!

I'm gotten very nostalgic for the Genesis of late, maybe thats my new favorite!

The Dreamcast by FAR!!! I've never seen another system with games that had so much innovation as the dreamcast did to this day!

yeah, people don't judge games by its gameplay...but rather they judge on whether or not it can survive the apocalypse.

....why isn't Game.com on the list!?!

The GameCube. It was much more durable than the PlayStation 2 or the Xbox. Watch this video all the way until the end:

For me, it's a definite toss up between the NES and SNES. The NES is probably the most revolutionary system there is, but the SNES.. IMO, offered a lot more. Like many other people I enjoy my classic plastic more than the newer stuff.
Now it is the beginning of
    a fantastic story! Let us
    make a Journey to
    the cave of Monters!
    Good luck!
