As far as copyright laws go I'm pretty ignorant, but I was curious if any video games (arcade or console) are now part of the public domain?
It was just something that was on my mind this evening while watching TV. Thanks in advance guys!

I read once that when Atari went bankrupt they released most of their games into public domain... but I never tried to confirm it and someone here would probably know a hell of a lot better then I would.

I don't think Atari has released anything into public domain.
Now, the Vectrex games have been released in public domain as long as someone does'nt try to sell them for money.
I think that's been done for another system or two also.

You know what? I'm an idiot.
I just spotted this on the FAQ at an Emulation board of a forum I moderate at:
I have no clue why I confused Intellivision with Atari.2. IIRC, you can get a full set of Intellivision ROMs at
The Vintage Gaming Network. The company that produced them
has made them public domain, or whatever the correct term
would be; e.g. they're perfectly legal to download.

If there's one game I'd want in Public Domain, it'd be "Fast Food" by Telesys. My favorite and most memorable 2600 game. I've made and attempted to make many remakes... make.
Anyway. Maybe one day I'll finish one of them.
