Default Thanks to the New Rarity Guide

Well, the other day I saw a post about someone thanking the rarity guide because it let them find an R8 in the wild. Well, I found that very same game in the wild....Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel for the SNES. Granted, it didn't have the box of instructions, but it is listed at $25 loose and I paid $6 for it. So I am pretty happy to have an R8 in my collection.

Thanks Joe for making this new searchable data base.

Um, who didn't read the entire thread? Portnoyd retracted his statement that it is an R5. Only orrimarko holds that it is a 5, everyone else says it's a 7 or 8.

Oh look, my nose just started bleeding.

To clarify, in the original thread in Jan 2003, I said it was an R5 an a mistake. The thread ended with my Enormis partner, D_N_G asking to discuss on IRC. The thread die at that. Then fast forward to now, and everything is clarified. Seeing what I've seen over the past year since I said that made me think what even possessed me to say that at all.

    It's an R8.

Sorry Keir, looks like you didn't read the whole thread either.

My ascertion was that there was definitely some inconsistencies about the rarity level. I have seen it listed as both a R7 and R8 in the guide, and when coupled with Portnoyd's previous quote about it being a mistake, there was an R5 out there for a while.

My initial postings were to help "clear up the mystery" about the game's rarity.

The rest of my posts had to do with the fact that as a comparison between other R8s for other systems, it seems like Zero misses the mark.

I further explained that I was specifically told that the "R" ratings were not respective to a title's specific system library, rather that they were cross-platform rarity ratings. That met with some disagreement, but that is still what I was told.

Regardless, while I respect Dave's and Austin's assessment of the title's rarity at an R8 - I still believe that it's a little high.

It works out better for me this way anyhow - I'll gladly accept the higher rarity level, as I have the game - WOO HOO!

Regardless Tholly, any game that you can get for $6 that's at least an R5 is still a good find in my book.

    Anyway, you're welcome!

Check out the Genesis, 32X, Sega CD, Dreamcast, and 3DO US sections and you'll find lots of screen shots and advertisements now appearing within the game entries. Now you'll start to get a sense of why I was jonesing for screen shots months ago. Behold, as the database begins to LOOK pretty as well as perform.

    Have fun with it!

After checking the SNES 8's & 9's, I kicked it down to the 6's & 7's, and from the same store that I got Zero, and it's cross-town counterpart, I picked these SNES titles up this week:

Dream TV (no book) R6 $4.99
    Bebe's Kids (no book) R7 $7.99
    Realm (Complete) R7 $9.99
Mountain Bike Rally (Complete mint) R6 $9.99

I was going to pass on the last one, as I already have it, and it seems to get talked down here quite a bit, but then I saw the thread about one with just a cart and ratty box going for $75.00 on ebay, and changed my mind

I also just noticed that the prices in the SNES guide are for loose carts...for those who have worked on the pricing, is there a percentage or formula for estimating the value a book or box adds according to rarity level?

Goodwill- that's a good question I'v been thinking about for a while and I don't really think there is a streight forword formula.

In my opinion it works this way:

Common classics/Favorites (zelda, metroid (all platforms) etc.) Box/ manual triple the value (approximately)

many average titles (rad gravity, or say bigfoot (both nes) the box and manual don't add much value.

Extremely rare titles (action 52, bonk, Ardy lightfoot, pocky rocky 2) Box /manual Qaudruple +MORE etc. etc.

    just my observations..
