    Default Atari 2600/VCS composite a/v

I know this topic has been discussed many times as well as mods...however, I've looked at various sites before, and results of the various mods have been reported as being different (better/worse). So, I'm thinking of skipping the mod altogether and I'd like to get the best possible picture I can otherwise without modifying it. Using the "Game TV" switcher I have (a few months ago), I noted how TERRIBLE the picture I get is. Color waves going across the screen...stuff like that. I don't particularly remember it being this way, but who knows...it was YEARS since I last hooked it up. Anyways, I just want a crisp/non-crappy picture from the thing, and was wondering if it's possible to get this using a/v, or some kind of adaptor to split the signal so I don't have to use that switchbox. I remember someone before posting a small piece that I could get at Radio Shack or somewhere, but I couldn't find the page (using "Search"). If I remember correct, the audio and video is combined into a single composite-type cable. Any ideas/recommendations? If I must use an RF adaptor of sorts, what is good to use?

Just thinking about hooking it up with all my other systems on a newer tv, not just by itself on an old tv.

Default I saw ths old post, and it got me thinking

You know, it seems like an easy thing, but hell if I know how to do it to my Atari. I too would love to have AV out for my atari 2600(I heard it is easier with an atari Jr. Can anyone help me out on this site?

    Default 2600 RF

    Greetings Programs.

Although you can go directly from the 2600 rf cable with an adapter there may be RF interference from broadcast TV in your area that can mess up your picture a little.

The old manual switchboxes work well as isolation transformers but they weaken over time. The auto rf switches require a stronger signal than any of the 2600's put out. The JR and 7800 actually have a slightly different signal than the others. They can be modified for composite video output. And the 6 switch video is much better than the 4 switches.

One thing I have yet to try is an inline filter with the f-adapter mentioned.

In theory it should clean up some of the noise.
