    Default Stereo of Doom

If you want to move this to off-topic, well, your the mod, I won't stop you.

Let's get to the subject at hand. You all are collectors. I am a collector. All of you guys play games like crazy, as do I, but what is your sound system like. Sound is half of the game. Post pics, specs, whatever you want. I am just curious as to what stereos others run for their games.

This is what I have setup.
    Aiwa half boombox
(I say half, because I turned it into a stereo system)
It has 2 very nice Aiwa speakers,5 CD changer, Cassette, RCA inputs.

I got crazy and added a real stereo speaker to the mix too.
    Audiofile 583lr's
    specs: 400 watt
    2 - 8" long throw bass drivers
    1- 5" seal Midrange
    1- 1" coated titanium tweeter
    8 ohm's impedence

Of course, it is all surround sound.

Pioneer Dolby 5.1 / DTS surround receiver, two Denmark loudspeakers for L and R (I can't remember exact specs, but they're 3.5' high and have a full set), Bose center and two rear, and a big fat Polk sub. I don't know all the numbers at this point (I did when I bought them), but it's very serious, very loud, and very r0><0r.

It's too bad consoles don't really do a great job with the surround like my PC does. The coolest thing in the world is to be playing an awesome FPS, full-on booms and explosions, and to hear bad guys coming up behind you. Or to be sneaking around in Thief or something and to hear where the guards are.
You are startled by a grim snarl. Before you, you see 1 Red dragon. Will your stalwart band choose to (F)ight or (R)un?

    Yamaha 6.1/DTS, Cerwin Vega all around. 3-way center, 2 12" Front, 2 8" Rear, 15" Powered 500 watt Sub.

I want to upgrade to acoustimass Bose all around. With my sub and stereo those Bose would kick arse. The Cerwin Vega's while adequate, aren't super responsive, for the price though they can't be beat.

well this is my stereo setup- it will do double duty as a part time game stereo at some point- but for now its primary aim is music-

    Vandersteen Model 5 speakers
    Audio Research LS-25MKII tube pre-amp
    Audio Research VT-100MKII tube amplifier
    Wadia 861 Cd Player
    AudioQuest DBS Cheetah interconnects
AudioQuest DBS Volcano speaker cables (two 5' pairs of full range, used in a bi-wire configuration)
Linn Sondek LP-12 with Ekos tonearm, Arkiv cartridge, Trampolin suspension, Lingo Power supply
Richard Gray's Power Company 400s power "conditioner"

no phono stage yet- but this system is going through another upgrade as I write this-

if any one here is hardcore into stereo's- drop me a PM.

My setup is pretty good. It's in the middle of being rebuilt right now, but I'm getting close to being done!

    Currently I have:

    B&K AVR507 Receiver (DD and DTS 7.1)
Denon 2900 Universal Player (DVD, SACD, DVDA)
    Sony 455 400 cd changer
    Energy Connoisseur C-7 for fronts
    Energy Connoisseur C-5 for sides
    Energy Connoisseur C-C1 center
    Energy Connoisseur C-R1 Bipolar rears
Sunfire True Sub IV (2700 watt powered sub!!)
    Energy ex:SL8 Sub

Still to come - Full Canare 4s11 biampable wiring thoughout the house as well as another Sony 400 cd changer and an Escient Fireball 40 to handle cd cataloging and mp3/internet radio.

Running my Xbox, GCN, and 2600 through all of this! Asteroids at 4500 watts is a whole lot of fun!!

It's not rigged up to my TV/consoles, but I've got a 1974 Bang & Olufsen Beocenter 1400 with a Beogram 1203 turntable It's also got a cheapish Aiwa CD player hooked up to it. It used to be my grandparent's, but I acquired it when my gran finally got a CD player last year. The turntable looked like it had barely been touched in 20 years.
It looks and sounds beautiful, and the woodgrain finish nicely matches my 2600

I have a old 1984 Pioneer A-40 stereo amplifier (along with the CT-501 tape deck and F-70 radio) connected to a pair of Quest speakers. Nothing spectacular but those old system (like the one anagrama have) still works great and give a nice 80's touch.

anybody ever buy those gaming speaker sets they sell at toys r' us? just curious if they were worthwhile or not worth it at all. i've got all my modern consoles (gen and up) running thru the stereo but for now nothing beats my big studio head phones, esp great for flying combat games, makes me feel sorta strapped into the game...that and my wife doesnt complain about the house sounding like a warzone.

it freaked the hell out of my parents when they first realized how loud my stereo system is. i actually got in trouble a few years back when i was playing tomb raider because the gunshots were extremely loud.

2 systems one of the last JVC all out tube amp/tuner matching system with Infinitys in front...took out the rears when we moved, never cared to get anything back.

ther main system on the main tv that now houses snes/xbox this week is a Bose lifestyle dvd system... it retailed for some huge number and i understand it's not the best thing on the block but i got it used for $400 and it was a steal...i need to get my use out of it before i switch.
My life and perception has changed, but my principals are the same.
