    Default IGN Game Collection Feature

Seems their doing a series on some of the larger collections in their db.
    Heres the first.

Pretty cool. That would give me more incentive to list my games on IGN, but considering I have under 500 games, I don't think I'd have much of a chance. You probably need 1000+ for them to take notice.

That guy has questionable tastes, in my opinion, though. :P Altered Beast blows away anything on NES? Haha, yeah right. Even if he mostly had crappy NES games back then, he must have had SOMETHING better than Altered Beast. I also find it funny that the two RPGs he lists on his favorite top 5 games list happen to be two of my most disliked RPGs. :P

Man, that is just not an incentive enough to enter my games into their system. I would, I guess, "qualify", but .. meh.

I tried using their db and found that too many items were missing, especially in the classic systems like intellivision. I gave up on it after that.

Can someone recommend a good online games library db? Besides IGN, I've looked at fatman games and had the same problem there - too many mistakes, typos and omissions. The only other one I've looked at is GTZ and if I recall, you have to manually type in each and every game in your collection, which can be a pain if you have a larger collection like I do.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Sphinx (gonna look at it), but IRT Portnoyd:

Hmm, let's see...I can stick with GameTZ which gives me discounts on games from certain online stores (never use it), or I could hope and pray to be noticed by legions of crazed Mega Man fans reading IGN...um...yay? So yup, I agree with you.

    Default Well, here I go

Its gonna take some serious time, but I will represent us and try to "fix"their serious holes in their inventory. I will log all my games and then try to report all the bugs I find. I was gonna do it tonight, but dang. 3500 games(with many not on the lists)is gonna take some sweet time

Its all about the love.................with a double shot of coffee and a game to keep me awake!

All the more incentive to get me to complete my IGN list (still have the NES and Gamegear stuff to add, plus a few loose titles here and there)
Im sitting at 1121 (not counting the stuff thats missing) on the site right now. Now all I need to do is get some new pics.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

I set my IGN collection up quite some time ago, back when they first started the whole thing. Yeah, it's missing a few items, but no big deal.

I'm gonna send in some pictures of my stuff, hope I get chosen. I think those display cabinets might help my cause.

I also exended an invitation for the featured collector to come join us here at DP.

i tried to be diplomatic in my choices for top games. when i wrote it, i couldnt think of any other game in the PSX/N64 era that i spent more time with than FFVII. That era is my least favorite game generation, but i didnt want to sound like a crusty curmudgeon and list a bunch of pre 1990 games. I had already mentioned Panzer Dragoon Saga in another question, so i didnt want to be redundant.

the cool thing was that i had posted pictures of my collection, and listed all the games that were missing from their DB, one of the staffers personally updated all of the games that were missing.

When the Genesis first came out, i loved all of their arcade ports. The NES was anti-arcade, with perversions of arcade games like strider, the first TMNT, all the simpsons games, and others.

though i gave them a link to the blue sky rangers INTV game list, with all of the proper publishers and what not, and it still hasnt been updated. oh well

I sent them this list of SNES games, waited a month, sent it again, waited a month, then sent it to another one of their email addresses and still nothing.

    Nobunaga's Ambition Lord of Darkness,
    Operation Thunderbolt,
    Pinball Fantasies,
    Super Noah's Ark 3D,
    Mountain Bike Rally Speed Racer,
    Hurricanes (US Gold) Soccer,
    The Adventures of Kid Kleets,
The Duel: The Test Drive II,
Snow White in Happily Ever After,
    Soccer Shootout,
    Steel Talons,
    Hammerlock Wrestling,
    Time Trax,
    Casper,
    GP-1 Part II,
    Fun N' Games

I have all these games and I want it to show up in my collection. That's why I am giving up on IGN. If you are going to do something, why not do it right and actually put all the games in the database. Half.com, Ebay, and Amazon.com have a source for the games, why not IGN?

This is bullshit, I have more games "catalogued" in my IGN database than this guy so I wonder what there criteria is for picking these people...do they just have some trained monkey pick some guy with a lot of games or something?

    Meh, whatever.

If you're just trying to get your collection online, and have a small amount of space to put up a website, Collectorz.com's game collector program works good and outputs in html.

You pretty much have to type in everything tho You do a search for the game in a few databases (Amazon, Moby Games ect) and pick what you want to add.

May take awhile to get everything in, but it's a good way to keep organized as well

I've got 231 games and only 1 is missing from their db (Motor Mash PSX PAL exclusive).

And everytime I've e-mailed them, they've eventually added the missing game to their db.

IGN has been pretty good to me about adding games to their database. I had 4 games that weren't in their list and it only took them one working day to add it in. The IGN database works well enough for me and I'm sure that it'll get better and more complete in time.

They are missing 8 Genesis games that I own. I sent them an email or two long ago about the missing games and only 2 got but in. Now I send them an email every other day in hopes that the games will be put in. I emailed them on some missing NES and SMS games and those got put in. My total list on there is almost 1100 games.

The BEST Idea i've heard in a long time. The big problem is, someone has to host the central database. DVD profiler has a community that constantly tweaks and updates it's database on a regular basis. CollectorZ game collector software is the closest thing to DVD Profiler, but no central database where the community can update.

Maybe we could hassle those guys to release a game version of their software???
