Default Game-retail employees and E3: free registration?

I've only ever registered for E3 as a press weasel or an exhibitor weasel, so I'm unclear how the process works for game-store employees. (A friend of mine who toils at the local Gamestop wants to go this year.)

Is anyone in these forums a game-store employee who's gone to E3? If so, what did you need in order to register on-site? A paycheck stub and a photo ID? Did it cost anything, or was it free?

Thanks very much in advance for any answers.

Well, I could have gone last year if I had the money, as I was writing for a small fansite that sent 3 guys (all of whom paid with their own money). You could always see if he could get on somewhere like that...

the registration is $259 i believe, unless you're press or an exhibitor. now... whether the company pays for that or not is another matter entirely... not sure what credentials you'd have to provide however.

I'm getting in free O charge thanks to my employment at Gamestop. They get me in the door, I pay for everything else. It's a fair trade off for a weeklong vacation to L.A./E3 to spend some times with friends, and meet some of the people from the board. Not to mention the games, ooh the games.

You had to register on the E3 site already I believe, and provide some info about who you work for. When they confirm the info, the will send an email with your entrance information. Pretty easy to do.

There's a reason I work at Gamestop once a month...

You CAN register on-site, but it WILL cost you money. I have no idea what the deadline is this year (should be on the e3expo.com website), but you simply have to fill out the form they have posted online, send in a paystub, and wait for your badge in the mail. It's free of charge if you send it in before the deadline. The workshops, of course, cost extra if you want to attend.

When you get to the expo, you simply have to present your photo ID and the badge to get your "badge holder". Then you're good to go.
