I was trying to find out the other day if Phantasy Star came with a map or if it just had one in the instruction book. So if anybody can help me clear this up I would greatly appreciate it.

I belive that there was only the partial map inside of the instruction manual.
Nope, just box, cart, manual.
I looked it up last night for you and found a page of a guy that collects phantasy Star and had multiple copes of PS1, none of them included a map.
I'm going to assume that it does not have a map besides what's actually in the manual.

You know, I have the Brazialian, American, European and Japanese, and Megadrive (rerelease) releases of PS, and I could have sworn at least one or two of them came with a map.
I will check when I get home.

all the help youll ever need
Well, It looks like none of them have maps. However, I don't even have the instructions for the Braazilian one, though I doubt it had a map. :-) Not even the Mega Drive remake had one. I think what made me think that they did was that some of them came with posters for Seag products.
I do have a map/hint book that was sold seperately for the Mark III vversion (I might even have two....I'd have to do a bit of digging for that!).

I have seen phantasy star TODAY with a map inside but with no instructions. So I almost positive it came with one.

Phantasy Star II came with a map, so that may be the source of some of the confusion.
haha ... so there is still the slight possibility that phantasy star 1 came with a map ... confusing.

Well I know for a fact that US, and Japanese PS 2 and 3 came with maps. Can't say so for other regions (I"m pretty sure the UK ones did). Actually, If I remember correctly, the Brazilian Portuguese PS3 did not have a map, since I got one sealed....I should double check this, but I believe it is accurate.
I'm having a brain fart about PS IV tho...can't remember.
Nez, can you double check this PS1 you saw, please?
Yours,
Rob

Does anyone know if the Japanese PS Collection for Saturn came with one?
BTW, the GBA PS Collection does not have a map either.

The PS Mega Drive rerelease doesn't have a map...if anything would've come with a map, that would be it - seeing how PS IV, which came out about four months earlier (in December '93, same as DOOM!), had one.
back in 1988 I bought phantasy star brand new for sega master system at toys r us it cost was 69.99 and the answer is no it didnt come with a map and yes phantasy star II was packed with map and hint book it originally retailed for 79.99 I even bought it at that price too myself ... the phantasy star III comes with map/poster and manual the hint book for phantasy star III was sold seperately ... phantasy star IV originally retailed for $99.99 and it just came with the manual and box not plastic case... dont recall if the 4 th one came with a map or not I got mine brand new but dont remember if it came with map or not its in my storage so i ll have to check on the 4 th one sorry for going off topic but i am a phantasy star fan myself lol .... thanks !
there definitely was NO map. when i first played the game with my younger brother about 15 years ago, we got hopelessly stuck in baya malay with all those floor drops and traps. i wrote sega (using the address on the back of the case), asking for help and a few weeks later a THICK envelope showed up with a walkthrough and maps for all the areas in the game. too bad i don't have it anymore (it's probably worth a small fortune, lol), but i DO have my lord of the sword walkthrough they sent along a bit later...
And the mystery is solved! Thanks a lot guys ... really appreciate the help on that one.
