    Default Weird GameCube-like N64 Controller

Has anyone ever seen an N64 controller like the yellow one in this picture? It looks like the perfect combination of GameCube and N64 controller designs.

It must be a fairly new item, because the analog stick looks just like those on the GameCube controllers.

I NEED one of these! This is exactly what I've been looking for to make N64 games feel more comfortable. Any ideas about where I might hunt one down?

I'd like to find one too. It might jsut be what I've been looking for on the n64. My hands are too large to feel comfortable on the inside grip for the joystick; so I ended up using the outside grip all the time reaching my left thumb over to the joystick. Yeah, I really like the design.

Hmm, just doesn't seem right without the joystick in the wrong place. Good find!

Oh yeah, screams "Dreamcast!" for some reason, too...

It looks like a bastard child of an N64 controller and a Super Power Joy III famiclone.

Still, it would be interesting to own one. I wish I could see the Z button.

I once saw one of those in an eBay auction for a 64DD that had all of the games. I believe the guy said that it came with Doshin the GIant, but he wasn't really sure on that.

And how exactly does one use the D pad?

Mad Catz made one that was fairly similiar to the gamecube controller as well (only 2 handles). Just swap the Analog stick and the Dpad. It worked pretty well once you got used to it.

I agree with sisko, the D-pad is in an awful place on the yellow controller. But then again, the analog stick is in an awful place on the original N64 controller. I've gotten used to the orginal controllers, but the yellow controller does address some of the issues like the stupid 3-prong design and the fact that it isn't long enough to be comfortable. Do you know what brand the yellow controller is?

yeah, the D-pad is in a bad spot ... but another question that begs asking... how the hell do you utilize the Z trigger?

maybe the z-trigger is a shoulder button like on the GC controller?

roxybaby, I don't know what brand the controller is. That's what I'm hoping to find out with this topic.

And yes, Querjek. I also saw this in an eBay auction that included Doshing the Giant. I just didn't see any mention of the controller and I was hoping someone around here would know what the deal was.

    Here's the auction:

I don't think I ever use the D-pad in a '64 game. Would be easy enough to swap controllers if I needed it, though. In any case my hands are big enough that I can get to the analog stick while holding both grips easily...it's still an awful design though :p

I agree wholeheartedly. It's the only controller I use for the system. It's a perfect combo and the only way to really play the console with 2 hands.

Back in the day, I just used a "MakoPad 64". It was a really cool one. I love it. But the control stick died of the infamous "Mario Party Disease". I bought a new one recently, but it is also dying. So I just am back to using the original. That's WHEN I actually play the N64.

Edit: Damn, that's a nice auction. Same "Mario Artist" didn't make it to the US. WHEN WILL WE GET A SEQUEL TO MARIO PAINT???

I googled and went to some N64 sites I use to see if I could find that controller (I love summer) but no one has anything like it. Just for kicks I checked to see if it actually was a Gamecube controller but no luck there either. I want to know what it is! Zach, have you considered emailing the seller to ask who made the controller?

    I'm 99% sure that's a Nintendo product.
