Default Buying video game stuff even with oppostion

I was wonder if you guys and gals take in account opinion of family or friends when buying video game stuff. For example I am facing opposition from my friend on buying\trading for a 3do. He keeps saying I will never play it etc. Never agreeing with me no matter I say.Parents saying I need money for college. Do you usually just ignore your friends and family when buying stuff or actually take it into account what they say?

Never ask for the opinion of a mere human! Mine is bad enough...I don't know what I'd do if I added other peoples' rationale onto my own :P

    Let's put it this way:

It's my money, not theirs, and I worked hard for it so I'm gonna buy whatever the hell I want with it!!! Hahaha. It's not their decision, so they can't stop you!!!! FIGHT THE POWER!!!!!!!

I just paid way too much for an Amiga CD32. My wife made fun of me and said I would never play it. Boy did I show her, I played it for at least an hour before I unhooked it from the living room TV and moved it upstairs.

At the end of the day, it's your money. Spend it on what makes you happiest, whether it's games or beer or pet monkeys.

    Monkeys is 'spensive.

When I started collecting I was surprised to find most of my friends and family were actually interested in it and dare I say, supportive. I'm so damn cheap, I think they were just happy to see me actually spend some money.

Saving up for college isn't an especially bad idea, but screw the naysayers.

I used get a little bit of flack from friends and family, but they have becom accustomed to it, and are quite supportive now.

Most people are generally impressed with my collection too, which makes me feel good

I'm thinking along the lines that Funkenstein is, saving up for college is a good idea. Spend a little, but don't go crazy.... remember, eating Ramen noodles everyday for 6 months (no matter how much you like it) is nas-tay

Why not take your money and split it in half- save half of it and spend the rest on what you want. That way you get what you want and you're still saving for the future.

Well ususally when I buy stuff, its really cheap or free so I will eventually sell my double stuff and as long as I keep getting really cheap double stuff, I can try to even out what I paid for the stuff.

Great topic. Actually when I first started getting stuff, everyday at least 2 packages in the mail off ebay, my parents thought I was crazy for spending that much money on old video game stuff as they would call it. They still don't know how much I spend on things to this day though. (If they knew I was spending 100-600 on vintage items they would kill me)
Anyways, my brother and neighbor think I am absolutely crazy for me buying sealed and "New" old stuff. Stuff I don't plan on playing, just collect. But my brother loves that I still get SNES games that he likes, but as well as NES, and N64 games too I guess.
The only person that doesn't care at all at what I buy, and loves to go game hunting with me, is surprisingly my girlfriend. She absolutely loves everything I get. (Except when I spend $100+ on the occasional sealed nes game)

But I think it's just that other people don't have the perception of us collector's on here. I know some people think I am crazy for spending so much. Or like the other day when I went crazy in Circuit City and bought about 20+ brand new GC games that cost around $350+. But ALL of this is worth it too me, no matter what anyone else says. Video games just mean too much to me to care!!!!!

I just got a shudder remembering my first year away from home. I literally ate ramen and soup 5 days a week, and would often times do the Lebowski and float a check to buy a carton of milk. So yeah, get them games before you move out, Greg, because once you hit college and beyond, you're gonna probably be flat broke for a little while.

The only mocking I got from my friends was when I bought Captain Novolin (perhaps well deserved).

My mother is about to hit me over the head everytime she sees me with a new system. Now if she can narrow it down to one...

A few friends do say things when I go for the "Old School" stuff. They don't understand how I can jump for joy when I came across the power pad for the NES. (Hmm.... and they think DDR was the first game to use a pad! Try World Track Meet!)

My boyfriend just keeps complaining that I'm spending too much money.

I just ignore the comments and keep searching!!

My mom whines and complains whenever I purchase games, game systems, anime, action figures, etc. So whenever she does, I simply explain to her, how I'll just go back out the door, return it, head down to a j-random club, do some drugs, get uNFed and then return in the morning.
RIP Kamino. 1984-2010. Yes, yes I do like nes...

<+skaar> Maybe you should ask yourself "What is it about me that makes men not want to let me penetrate them?"

Who cares what friends and family think, VIDEO GAMES are the equivalent to religion for myself and many of my collecting friends. Many choose to waste hours upon hours in churches, synagogues and other such religion buildings while I waste my time at game stores, swap meets, and ebay. It's all the same, we're all gonna die anywas. At least I'll have the privilege of dying with a complete NES collection and an abundance of other great gaming goodies. Jesus would have had a great gaming collection too....had their been electronics in his day.

And any religious do-gooders who frequent this site who think this is "offensive" or that I am a "heretic" can go suck a lemon. Anyone who would get offended over a stupid gaming post has such mislead faith that they obviously take themselves too seriously, so don't give me any B.S. responses because I'm not listening. THIS IS MY GOD:
