Default Playing NES, Genny & SNES games with a XBOX Controller

For those of you that have modded XBOX's, which you use to play emulators of systems like the NES, TG-16, Super Nintendo and Genesis, is there a decent controller out there for the XBOX that has a good D-Pad?

I find it hard to play classic 8 bit and 16 bit games on the XBOX with the XBOX controllers that I've tried with it.

I need a controller with a old school D pad.

What do you guys use when you play SNES and Genny games on the XBOX?

Do you use the controller S ?

Do you use the standard huge controller?

Do you use a specific 3rd party controller?

Do you use a PS2 controller and a PS2 to XBOX adapter?

I need to find some kind of controller that will give me a good feel.

I don't have my Xbox modded, but what I use for emulated games on PC is a usb Playstation converter which I then hook up my Mad Catz RetroCON up to. I also have a combo adapter that lets you use ps2 pads on both Xbox and Gamecube. The usb adapter ran me $5 bucks (it's usually $10) at Radio Shack and the latter adapter ran me $5 in the used bin at Gamestop.

The Mad Catz RetroCON is for the PS2 right?

How is the D pad on it?

I've though about getting that controller and a PS2 to XBOX adapter. But I didnt' want to spend all the extra cash unless I really, really like that D-Pad. Problem is, all the controllers are in these special plastic cases and you can't really try them out without destroying the package that the come in.

I think I could find the RetroCON for $19.99 and I might be able to get a PS2 to XBOX adapter for $12.99 or so. So that would run me almost $40 with taxes and everything.

It would be worth it, if the controller's D-Pad is really good.

I'd say the Dpad is better than the average 3rd party dpad, but not quite what you'd get on a first party effort like the NES or the Playstaion's dpad. Also, the RetroCON's are only $14.99 at any Circuit City (same price online, and shipped free). I'd recommend looking around the used bin at Gamestop for the adapters as I've seen several. I found one a few weeks ago when I picked up the RetroCON. I can maybe look for you if you want, I might go today despite my wallet being in shambles.
