Default Pics of my custom built happ joystick

Special shout out to § Gideon § for showing me this link, and my girlfriend's dad for helping me build it (though he still doesn't exactly understand what a playstation IS

I saw that link about 2 months ago, and right then and there I knew I had to do it. This thing works awesome. I choose to use a 3rd party psx controller simply because of the wide variety of adapters available (so far it works on my psx->usb, and I'll be picking up a psx->dc adapter very soon).

    I've fallen in love.

That looks great. I was either going to just shell out the $100 for a custom one or do it myself, but now that I have the link I guess I'll try it out this summer.

BTW: how long do you think it took from start to finish?

I actually decided against painting it and put some polyacrilic over it, which has a very nice 'feel'. I debated for a long time as to how I was gonna finish it...i kinda like the homemade look it has with the clear coat. Other option was to put contact paper on it but i tossed that idea out pretty quickly. When i originally ordered the red buttons, it was gonna be on black paint/contact paper.

As far as how long it took...hmmm...AWHILE. If I had to put a number on it I'd say a good 10 hours, but I was taking my time...it could be done in 5. Plus, I didn't actually cut the wood as I didn't have access to a table saw. It was FUN work.

I lucked out and had access to tools + spare psx controller so it only cost me less than $40 (the wood was free too

You may also notice that there appears to be no bottom. The bottom is actually inset, which makes it look a bit nicer...a decision made by the wood cutter which made me happy I have to recommend this project to everybody...it really isn't that hard and it just makes mame soooooo much more fun. When i get my dreamcast adaptor i don't think anybody is gonna see me for a few weeks.

Nice piece of work. One of down-the-road projects is to build a tabletop MAME box. I was going to build an optional player-2 controller set and I had something like this in mind for the layout. Anyway, thanks for showing us all how it's done.

I didn't have a drill press either, but there is an official capcom template on that website which is an absolute must. I just guessed on that 7th neogeo button.

Also, since a few of you seem interested in making your own here is another site which is helpful:

he's got a custom foot pedal for time crisis on that site....hmmmm...next project?
