Default Sometimes you really hate E-bay

Ok, so I list a Jaguar complete for my friend. He gave me some games for the trouble. With a little over a hour left, the drama starts witht he high bidder:

    E-mail 1:

    Dear videogamer,
Hello, I am the current high bidder for your jaguar, but if you could some how retract my bid it would be appreicated. I had the money up until today which i went to auctions and wasted it all there... Hope you could do this for me

    My response:
You have to do it yourself. I can't. You'll have to hurry and try and look under help. I've never done it.

    #2:
    Dear videogamer,
Alright then, you prolly will just have to give it to the 2nd highest bidder then.

    Response:
No, if you win, it's your responsibility. If you win you must pay. These are E-bay rules. If you do not plan on paying, retract your bid immediately.

    #3:
I can not retract since its in within the hour of the
    > end of the auction.

    Re:
Sorry, then it WILL be your responsibility

    #4
Sorry, guess you will have to relist

    Re:
I'm not going to pay the fees for this auction and the re-listing fees. It's
not my fault you weren't more careful. If you win, payment will be your
responsibility to pay. You have 10 days according to E-bay policies. If
payment is not received within that period, then you will be reported to
E-bay and will receive a negative feedback.

End of saga for now. The system still has about 10 minutes to go and that last E-mail was about 20 minutes ago. He still has it.

He is the one causing the problem yet he is acting like it is all your fault that he can't afford it any more. Yes, you MADE him spend his money and then forced him to bid on your auction.

    Man...

After that first email I would not have waited for him to retract his bid, I would have removed his bid from my auction myself....therefore bringing the second highest bidder back up top and banning him from bidding again at all.

I don't think you can do that in the final hours like that. Ebay has made it where you get porked in the ass on a regular basis. Of course they probably don't mind the relist fees at all.

If it were me, I would contact the second highest bidder immediately. No sense in waiting for this asshat to maybe send payment, he sounds like a flake to me.

I'd contact the second highest bidder now, let him know the winning bidder has emailed you, saying he can't afford it and is an idiot in general, ask the second highest bidder if he would be interested and go from there.

You can set up a second chance offer for him if he is interested in it still.

Only thing to work out is the price, when the highest bid is thrown out, the price on a second chance offer will be one bid increment less, but honestly, it's almost like that other guy doesn't exist. If you were to throw out his bid, then it may go down several increments even, depends on how the bidding took place. Sometimes it's not a big difference, sometimes it is. You may have to come off the price some to sell a second chance offer, so it's best to email the guy first and see if he's even interested.

But the second chance offer will be set at that one bid increment under the final bid, he can bid on that, then adjust the actual payment if you worked something out, once he goes to pay you.

But if he is still interested and ya'll agree to something email back the other clown and let him know you're letting him off the hook. Then file for your FVF's after the 7 days have passed, under mutually agreed to end transaction.

Well, that guy had better have a Pay Day coming up if he knows what's good for him.

Holy freakin' mother of crap! HE PAID!

Well, with an E-check, so I guess there still is the chance this could go horribly wrong. Still, I never thought I would see this money. Here's the auction in question just in case you were wondering:

Depends on your definition of "better". Better transactions? Yes. Better exposure? No.

I think ebay has it set up like that to discourage shill bidders... you know so you don't up your own auction at the end and then retract if you outbid the real high bidder.

I had this happen to me once. Someone put a really high proxy bid and the game just kept going up. Much higher than it was actually worth. They cancelled their proxy bid at the last moment that they could and the person who had originally bid won the game, for much lower than it was worth. If I had been home when it happened I would've cancelled the auction. At one point the game was actually at twice as much then it usually sells for, I imagine at this point everyone removed it from their watch list. Which is probably why the person who originally bid on it won it. I kinda wonder if the bidder who cancelled the auction and the bidder who won it were in on it together, or could be the same person with two id's.
Be excellent to one another. Party on dudes!

Give it some time, and it will be able to compete with EBay.

EBay fucking sucks lately. I won a lot of games that was supposed to include the Sunrise version of Quest For Quintana Roo. The seller still hasn't sent it.
