    Default Memory Cards

A little question about memory cards specifically aimed at the PS2 audience (to avoid Xbox users from skewing the results ).

Yeah so I've been up for 22 hours and I almost finished Red Faction but then Masako put a cap in my ass and my cat knocked over teh Pleystation and man I should have bought a memory card.

Compared to the wonderful roominess of the PS2's card (Despite the fact that individual game saves went from 1/15th of 128k for PSX to between 85-350K per save, even for regular old sequels. What the hell is that all about?), the Gamecube's original Memory Card 59 is woefully inadequate. the newer 251 serves much better, but still is not as goot as the PS2 memory card. It does take less time to save though.

Another lame feature of both of those cards is that the hardware causes the action in the game to pause for some reason, but the Dreamcast never had this problem. You just had a little accessing data icon that appeared on the VMU. Why couldn't the other systems just play along with that idea? it's especially noticeable on PSO.

The PS2 mem card is fantastic. I've had my PS2 for over a year, played at least 25 games on it, and just now almost filled the card up. Nice job Sony.

Wait til the SD adapter card comes out. SD card are available in 8 to 128MB size and AFAIK 256 and 512MB card could be out soon.

GC's 59 is only 4MB, 251 is 16MB. Grab a 512MB card and it'd probably be the only card you need for life. Plus SD adapter for PC exists so a quick backup can be done to preserve data in case of an odd behavior, little (brother, nephew, cousin, etc.) messed up the save game, or Act of God ruined you save data.

The Gamecube's memory cards are even smaller than that. the 59 is actually 4mb, not 4MB, meaning they are only 512k. the 251 is about 2 1/2MB. but yest the SD memory adapter is coming, but still has no release date. Hmm...
