Looking for an RGB monitor for my SNES. Does anyone know if a Commodore 1702 monitor will do the trick? There seems to be quite a few of them on ebay.

I don't think so, I haen't really taken a close enough look at mine since there are 2 NES' stacked on it, and it's there's too much shit around it. I don't believe it can.
Nope, not at all. Composite & Y/C only.

You should be able to get one on Ebay for under $50, shipping included.
If you want to spend some more and get a bigger RGB monitor I suggest a Sony PVM-2030 or Sony PVM 2530
Do you know the difference between a 1084S and a 1084D monitor?Originally Posted by Anthony1

Yes.Originally Posted by stargate
The 1084 & 1084S monitors have "round" din connectors, while the 1084d & 1084dS monitors have a trapezoidal connector. Here are some pinouts to help you from the gamesx.com hardware book:
1084 & 1084S (Analog Connection)
1084 & 1084S (Digital Connection)
1084d & 1084dS

well, I am still confused. It appears the 1084S model is capable of digital and analog RGB as well as stereo, while the 1084D model can only do analog RGB and no stereo. I am not positive of this, but this is what I think I am seeing.Originally Posted by ClubNinja
So, can I use either model to get RGB out of my SNES? This is all I am using it for.
Thanks for all the help!

I love the 1084S because it has a little headphone jack on the side of it. It's perfect for gaming sesions at night when the wife and baby are trying to sleep.
In fact, just last night I was playing Blazing Lazers for the TG-16 in RGB on my 1084S. It was a beautiful experience! The Turbo in RGB really is a dream of dreams.
You also absolutely have to see the Genesis in RGB as well. The Genesis could only put a measly 64 colors on the screen at any one time, but in RGB every color is worth it's weight in gold. The Genny is very, very nice in RGB. Saturn of course is a dream in RGB. Saturn was made for a beautiful RGB display. If you are a fan of the Jag, it's also great in RGB. Everybody needs to have their PS one in RGB as well.
Basically I just love the F out of RGB.
However, having said all of that, if you have all of these things, then you really don't need the Genesis in RGB anymore:
1. Modded XBOX
2. Neo Genesis Emulator
3. HDTV that can handle a 720P or 1080i signal
4. High Def XBOX cable
5. Set Xbox Filtering to Trilinear Filtering
6. Set video mode to SuperScale2X
7. Set video mode to 720P if you have a TV that will display 720P, if not, then 1080i for a HDTV that does 1080i
If you have all that going on, then you basically got the Genesis in RGB through a XBOX hooked up to a HDTV.
Digital RGB is useless. At least, it is for you. When people talk about connecting game systems in RGB, what they really mean is analog RGB. Digital RGB is completely inferior, and as far as I know, you can't hook up consoles using digital RGB. I think "RGBI" (The I standing for "Intensity") is another term for digital RGB, just in case you see it anywhere.Originally Posted by stargate
I made this mistake a long time ago when I bought a Catbox for my Jaguar and was building a cable to hook it up to my "RGB" Commodore 1902 monitor. Of course, I couldn't get it working because the 1902 only does digital RGB. Eventually, I got a 1084S and all was well.
I also have an odd variant called the 1084S-P1, which I have yet to try hooking up in RGB. It has the trapezoidal port on it, so I'm guessing it uses the same pinouts as the 1084D.
To answer your question, yes, both the 1084S and 1084D will work properly. The D model lacks the stereo sound though. No, the 1702 will not do RGB... neither will the 1902 (at least, not in any usable form).

thanks for all the info folks. I'm off to look for a monitor.......
Boy
Yes the Commadore 1702 will RGB. I have mine doing it
right now. I have it doing 256 color not 64 colors. The trick is
not to use the Video on the front which is composite. Use the back
video inputs one is Chroma, and Luma which is used in RGB monitors.
It works real close to the S video found on some HI-DEF TV's.....
You can wire it up to you system, but you will have to make you own cable. Just look at what the wiring pinout on your system and look
for your Chroma, and luma outputs. It not hard ,and I have made cables
for different reasons. I have three computer that all have RGB out puts
and the Commadore 1702 works great on them. I even get a 640X480
resolution on one of the computers with this monitor. I am a retired
engineer and computer programer and have written several games
in my life time. Started programing games in 1977 to 1996...Now
retired....I also wrote programs for NASA.
