Popeye Pac-Man

I just remembered this bizarre Pac-Man hack that turned up in a few locations in my hometown when I was a kid. It was Pac-Man, but the Pac-Man sprite was replaced by a picture of Popeye's head. I can't remember for sure if anything else had been changed. I think the sounds may have been tweaked. I'm pretty sure Pac-Man still appeared during the intermissions.

I vaguely remember the marquee having amateurish pictures of a Popeye head and ghosts on it. I also seem to remember it being less fun than real Pac-Man for some reason, so I was always disappointed when places had this hack instead of the regular game.

Has anybody else ever seen this Pac-hack? Is a cab photo or ROM available anywhere? I'd like to see it again after all this time.

hahahaha. That is so cool. I am guessing this wasnt like a high price machine, just a corny knock off? I want to see this cabinet so bad.

Awesome, I had never checked out PacMAME before. Built-in support for the Coleco tabletop AND the trading card rub-off game? Sweet! Unfortunately, I can't get PacMAME to play any ROMs. It throws a GPF. Is PacMAME not compatible with Win XP Pro?

The Popeye head in Pente's post doesn't quite match my mental picture of the game, but that could just be due to my fuzzy, 20-year old memories.
