This really isn't off-topic, so to the Video Games section it goes!

$199 is a fair bit, but it's definitely going to drop in price. The LCDs are the most expensive part of the unit, and there is a shortage right now on top of that. Although, I myself am going to wait for it to drop. From what I remember, the original GBAs dropped in price about a year after their release. Good time to buy it too, since by then, they were getting past their first gen games

$199 is an estimated price. Nothing has been announced.

$199 is a little steep in my opinion. There needs to be a $100 price gap between the DS and the PSP in order to ensure that Nintendo's new system will outsell its competitor.

I'm sure the DS will be cheaper and more popular than the PSP. Don't get me wong, the PSP looks nice, but there are many problems with it. I know developers, and it appearently has a really poor development system. On top of that, you can't code directly to the hardware, you need to go through their API, which in my opinion, will make the system half the speed it could be. If you could only code the GBA though an API, they'd never have been able to pull off the 3D games they've done. As well, it has no cache memory, so that will make it about half the speed that it could be as well. Very poor design decisions. To top it off, Sony's been making really bad hardware lately. I spent so much money on my PS2 when it came out, and now I have the dreaded disc read errors like everyone else. It's especially bad because I don't used my PS2 all that much-- maybe 0-5 hours a week max. I've gone weeks without touching it (since I like my NES and such so much ), but it still wore out--like everyone else's.

The idea of using CDs,DVDs, and other discs is a good one, for the fact the games can have more content. However, I think the cartridges are the way to go still, because less moving parts mean less chance of problems. I can see into the future, all the broken PSPs on eBay--it'll be like the scene in Terminator, only with broken PSPs all over the ground.

The only real problems with GBAs are the screens which can break. However, the SP pretty much eliminated the chance of the screen being broken unless you're really rough on it and don't take care of it. The screens aren't that fragile though, and more protection could mean less visibility and a heavier system. The Game Gear sure had it right though! Man it was built strong! They must've had 1cm of plastic over the screen to protect it!

They're taking preorders now, I'm not sure if you already knew that or not.

Gee, I forgot how to read and I don't remember why I'm in this thread.

Heh, give MAS2600 some credit! He may be building a chair out of SMB/DH carts but he's not a moron

As for the price...well, I think there's a chance that even supposing the $199 figure is right that there will be at least a $50 gap between the DS and the PSP. I guess Sony doesn't realize I don't give a shit if my game device plays movies and that having better control is a selling point for me. I'm sure it will be great for lots of mindless Sans Fonies (well, it sounds neater than Fony Sans), but I don't consider that to be a good use of my money.[/rant]

Haha, sorry, I didn't mean it like that. But they don't really seem to be advertising it as they're just doing it because other stores are doing it. They can't even guarentee the number of units they're allegedly going to receive. Gamestop that is, not Wal-Mart.

Is it me, or does "Jenzyme" sounds like a female enhancement supplement?
