Default How long can you stay awake?

I'm going to attempt to set a worlds record on a video game next weekend on PS2.

How long can you stay awake?

Does anyone have any advice how to survive sleep deprivation? Any tips?

I don't know how long I can stay awake, but coffee and No Doz work pretty good for me when I need to cram a few more hours in. That's for WORK though, not games... I could probably stay up longer if I were playing!

So what game are you working on the record for?

    PM to DP Sent.

I'd rather not go into details until after I set the record. If I do it, I'm sure you'll hear about it.

My only tip would be have a friend that's much better at it than you are beside you most of the time. I stayed up about 25 hours over the weekend, although that was followed by a 20 hour long sleep session afterwards. Coffee and activity seem to do the trick.

You should use a Gamecube and play Animal Crossing for 2 days straight. I could do that

Eating helps. I used to drive a lot in highways, and when youre eating you cant fall asleep (maybe its a natural reflex to prevent choking). Keep many snacks around!

Keep plenty of lights on Playing in the dark will increase drowsiness.
Keep something cold (and non-alcoholic) to drink nearby.
Change your body positioning/seating often. Keeps the blood flowing, the oxygen flowing, and you from getting too comfy in one spot
Don't forget to blink! People tend to blink a lot less often when playing games, increasing eye fatigue. Keeping Visine handy may help
Keep the air in the room fresh! Having fresh air circulating prevents the room from getting stuffy and overheated.

My cousin stayed up about six days one time on crystal meth. He's in the state penn, if you need to ask him some questions.

Me personally, I can't even stay up 24 hours. I've done it before, but the whole next day I feel drunk and act giddy.

The longest I've stayed up is about 36 hours. The key is to have at least one other person around that you know can stay up for a long time as well. Keep talking, keep drinking Red Bull (it gives you wings!), turn on some music, and don't look at the clock.

Be prepared to crash and crash hard though when you finally do fall asleep.

Try to put the volume on the TV extremely loud. I can't fall asleep when there's any sort of extremely loud noise, so that might help.

Gum works wonders too. I went on a fishing trip last fall, we went stright from work to a bus which took us to the Gulf unloaded our stuff on to the boat at 12. am, then the boat trip was another 6 hours before we would fish. I was scared to fall asleep on the boat because it was my first time out on the ocean, and I did not want to get sea sick. So I was chewing gum, not only did I not get sick but the gum helped keep me awake. If I started to feel tired I would just pop in another peice of bubble gum. After the trip was said and done I think I was up about 40 hours and had 800 pounds of fish to split with the group of 13 people. ummmmmm red snapper

The best way to stay awake for long periods of time is pure motovation. Keep yourself enthusiactive about the goal your trying to obtain. when I worked and went to school or when I was in the army that's what always kept me going.

Just put on some loud music behind you and have someone who is better than you play the game. (well only if its a puzzle or fighting game I guess).

The longest Ive stayed up was 48 hours straight at a friends house. I slept like 19 hours after that.

I agree with this one. Motovation is definitely key. You can only do it if you really WANT to do it.

DP also mentioned No Doze. Brother, they work, but good lord the downer is a doozy!

My personal record was 36 hours, which occured during the labor / delivery / complications of the birth of my daughter. All turned out well in the end, and I'll tell ya what...that first sleep after the marathon will feel reeeaaal good.

    Good luck on the record!

    Default .

not long, 36 hours maybe - I can push myself to work hard, and do long shifts with short breaks at times, but I do need to grab some sleep.

Done a few 7 day 18 to 20 hour shifts before now, but I was out like a light as soon as I got home.

I have a horrible time falling asleep at night, not to meantion I'm extremely restless at night....so its pretty easy for me to stay up 24 hours in a row or so. However, I think the longest I went without sleep was like 48 hours. Mix in there a lotta caffeine and stress....and funny things happen.

Yeah, for some reason i don't really like sleeping?
I just feel like I could be doing something more productive

But my advice to you is to drink alot of caffine and try and have a friend over, whenever i have friends over it kind of helps me stay awake.
