Default No matter how experienced you are, we all have those moments

I was playing FF Chronicles, specifically the Final Fantasy II / IV disc, and when I was playing I got to the famous line "YOU SPOONEY BARD!" And it was then that I realized, I had NO idea that it was from FF II! I knew the phrase, but I had no idea just where it came from, and if it weren't for my cousin (big anime guy, not much of a gamer) being there with me, and it being the first time he read it, I probably would have been more embarrassed.

So what about you guys? What are you n00biest moments?

The first time I played Guitar Freaks, I had absolutely no clue what I was doing. I thought you had to tap the neck buttons to match the note bars that came up, and hit the "effector bar" when the guitar icon came up in the 4th lane. I quickly realized I was doing something wrong, and figured out that you had to hold the matching buttons and hit the pick lever to play a note.

The saddest part: this was the English version of Guitar Freaks.

I wouldn't all it a noob moment...but it must be shared.

    Been gaming for 25+ years.
Had some friends over for some Game Cube multiplayer.
    And alcohol.

After lots of alcohol, I sat for 5 minutes trying to untangle the controller cords...

    of my Wave Bird.

Pretty common error by people that come to Guitar Freaks with beatmania experience. Such as me. -_-

It took me forever to get used to stealth games. I was so used to the KILL EVERYTHING gameplay of classics like Contra and Gunstar Heroes...the first time I played Metal Gear Solid I hated it because I couldn't just run up and break everyone's necks. Eventually I realized...whoa....you don't....have to...kill the bad guys.

My n00biest moment would have to be the first time I played DDR. I looked like such an ass and everyone watching was laughing.

Final Fantasy VIII has a "Boost" command that you can give to your summonings (what were they called in that version, Guardians I think?). I thought it automatically boosted up my Guardian's stats as a one-time deal or something. I finally figured out that when you rapidly push one of the buttons while it's being summoned it's attack increases BIG TIME.

Naturally I discover this during the final boss battle.

Edit: Video games during sex? What, Thrust Thrust Ejaculation?

I guess I can say my most NOOBiest moment would be the first time I played Grand Turismo 3 on PS2. It was also my first time on a PS2 too. I had NO idea what I was doing. I was used to mashing the gas until Im near the corner then slamming on the brakes. Well this was not that style of game and I was laughed at by all who was there.

As for playing DDR? no way, not unless it was in a close friends basement and I was the only one there and had hours to practice.

Not really so much as a noob moment, but I tried to play a recent popular basketball game aganist someone who knew EXACTLY what he was doing, as opposed to me who had'nt played a basketball video game in 10 years.

The results were, needless to say, not fun.

Yeah you mean like you're used to playing NES Double Dribble or TG16 Taking it to the Hoop and then you try playing a game of NBA Live 2004 or something? Man I know all too well what you went through.

But I don't care that I sucked at it. I always have fun If anything it's funny watching my opponent get annoyed at how cluless I was at the game trying to play it "arcade" style.

Reminds me of the first time I played an NBA 2K game without knowing all the rules of basketball.

My noobiest moment would be when I bought a copy of Space Hawk for Intelivision thinking it was an atari 2600 game.

Second was when I tried Tekken for the first time. At that same friends house I might add.....Got laughed at again.

Now Im a force to be reckoned with....Thoses same punks refuse to play me now

When I first played Chrono Trigger, I sat there for a minute or so on the intro screen where Chrono's mom tells him to wake up (the first dialogue screen in the game) wondering why the game wasn't doing anything. Since it was my first RPG and I hadn't played many games with an actual storyline to that point, I didn't realize that the game was waiting on me and that I had to advance the dialogue along myself!

Or how about the time I figured out how to use magic higher than level one in Arc the Lad II...during the final boss fight! Made the game much more of a challenge for sure...

Just for clarification, are we talking about the 16-bit Super Nintendo game (FF4-Japan) -or- the 8-bit original Nintendo game (FF2-Japan)?

    Noob Moment:
When I first upgraded to a playstation, I tried to use the joystick like it was digital (full up/down, full left/right) and steered my Gran Turismo car into one wall... then the other. I forgot I had the option to just make slight joystick movements.
