Default Sega CD Cardboard Box Games Question

Just got a quick question on the few sega cd games that came in cardboard boxes:

All the ones Ive seen come with the manual and the game in a jewel case, but the jewel case is just the cd, with no insert. Is this how they really were? Only thing that makes me wonder a bit is the store that has the cardboard box games near me is all from a rental store. Thanks for the help!

Back in the day, the cardboard releases had just the CD in the jewel case inside.

That's how I remember it. I bought Wonder Dog and Cobra Command that way. *shudder*

    Yup.

The old cardboard box Sega CD games were comprised of:

    A Cardboard box

A CD jewel case containing the game

The game's instruction booklet (which is interestingly large enough to fit inside the cardboard box, will not fit in the CD jewel case and will only slightly fit the plastic Sega CD/Saturn plastic cases.)

Miscellaneous documentation - warranty cards, etc.

I remember fully because I used to be quite the Sega CD buyer back in the day. The first Sega CD game I bought was "Cobra Command".

cool, I had just picked up afterburner III and blackhole assault and noticed the jewel cases had no inserts....I didn't know if it possibly had like a cover art insert in it or what not, but thanks for clarifying this for me!

I printed out custom covers for all the loose SegaCD games that I picked up on eBay, you can find a lot of cover and back art (with spines too) around. vgmuseum has some.

What kind of jewel cases did the games come in? Were they skinny cases, normal sized, completely transparent, or some solid color, etc.? I got 10 cardboard box games, and they all came with the CD just loose in the box. I'd like to get them cases similar to what they're supposed to have.

Just the standard jewel cases of the time... (clear cover w/ black tray)

I believe they were all standard size, but some had non-standard colors, i.e. my Sewer Shark or Cobra Command came with a red insert (the piece the CD holds onto.
