    Default SNES Doom 3

found it in the June 95 EGM I got for free yesterday. what ever happened to it. Also they said there was also to be an Ultra 64 (nintendo 64) version of it as well. Like to know more.

Ultra 64? I'm not sure what you mean by that, are you referring to old doom 64? Pretty good game, nice facelift and quite a bit of fun.

    It says DOOM...three?

Well we all know of DOOM 64 which might have been this final product you've run across. It's very strange to think that there could be a game properly titled DOOM III as iD would've wanted to save the proper sequel to DOOM ][ for themselves, such as 3D Realms did (is still doing?) with the various console non-DNF games (Time to Kill, Land of the Babes, Zero Hour, etc. and of course DN 64 is more or less a port).

It seems likely to me that somebody quickly threw the title DOOM III on the project without having it looked at in detail by the iD guys, who probably would've told them to change the name.

There is a precedent (of sorts) at iD itself, when they let it be known to the Apogee (3D Realms) folks that they would not be making a Wolfenstein II, though they didn't even let the Apogee folks make a spinoff title (it became Rise of the Triad) so it's a good guess that had more to do with the upcoming (at the time) release of DOOM which makes this an interesting but ultimately pointless digression off topic - it's hard to say who came up with the title or whether it really is the same monster that became DOOM 64. Many guesses and questions, no real answers.

Oh man, Rise of the Triad was such a fun game. I loved all of Apogee's games at that time, and FPSers in general.
Yeah, Doom 3 on the SNES... being ported.... NOW

I was thinking you were going to tell us that you found some pirate on eBay trying to pawn Doom on SNES as Doom 3 by slapping a new sticker on it.

In fact, I bet I could make some quick money that way. Hmmm...

Still have the demo of Whacky Wheels sitting around somewhere. Might have to break it out and go back in time.

"Ultra 64" was one of the original working names of the Nintendo 64 console. It was even advertised as such in the Killer Instinct arcade game.
